Petroleum refiners must face billion-dollar investments in equipment in order to meet ever-changing environmental requirements. Because the design and construction of new processing units entail several years’ lead time, refiners are reluctant to commit these dollars for equipment that may no longer meet certain conditions when the units come on stream. Written by experts with both academic and professional experience in refinery operation, design, and evaluation, Petroleum Refining Technology and Economics, Fifth Edition is an essential textbook for students and a vital resource for engineers. This latest edition of a bestselling text provides updated data and addresses changes in refinery feedstock, product distribution, and processing requirements resulting from federal and state legislation. Providing a detailed overview of today’s integrated fuels refinery, the book discusses each major refining process as they relate to topics such as feedstock preparation, operating costs, catalysts, yields, finished product properties, and economics. It also contains end-of-chapter problems and an ongoing case study.

The Bradford Oil Refinery holds the distinction of being the oldest continuously operating petroleum refinery in the United States. Over the past 125 years, the refinery has survived changes in ownership, fires, and economic highs and lows, and it continues to be an important supplier of lubricants and refinery specialties. The company was established in 1881 in the small village of Kendall Creek (now the city of Bradford) by three independent oilmen: Robert Childs, Eli Loomis, and William Willis. They quickly recognized the financial opportunity of building a refinery in the heart of the oil region. The original crude oil capacity was 3,500 barrels per year. Today the refinery purchases in excess of three million barrels of crude oil annually, two-thirds of which comes from within 100 miles of the refinery.

Models For Optimum Decision Making written by Katta G. Murty and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-03-13 with Business & Economics categories.

This book considers the problem of determining how many barrels of crude oil an oil-producing and exporting country should produce annually for export―along with several other important problems that decision-makers in the crude oil industry face―and discusses procedures for finding optimum solutions for them. It considers the important Objective Functions they need in making these critical decisions, and discusses procedures to find the best solutions. Outputs from the treatment units, in an oil refinery are only semi-finished products; these are blended into finished products like gasoline, diesel oil, etc., meeting various specifications that the marketplace demands. The book discusses models for solving these problems optimally with examples.

Fundamentals of Petroleum Refining presents the fundamentals of thermodynamics and kinetics, and it explains the scientific background essential for understanding refinery operations. The text also provides a detailed introduction to refinery engineering topics, ranging from the basic principles and unit operations to overall refinery economics. The book covers important topics, such as clean fuels, gasification, biofuels, and environmental impact of refining, which are not commonly discussed in most refinery textbooks. Throughout the source, problem sets and examples are given to help the reader practice and apply the fundamental principles of refining. Chapters 1-10 can be used as core materials for teaching undergraduate courses. The first two chapters present an introduction to the petroleum refining industry and then focus on feedstocks and products. Thermophysical properties of crude oils and petroleum fractions, including processes of atmospheric and vacuum distillations, are discussed in Chapters 3 and 4. Conversion processes, product blending, and alkylation are covered in chapters 5-10. The remaining chapters discuss hydrogen production, clean fuel production, refining economics and safety, acid gas treatment and removal, and methods for environmental and effluent treatments. This source can serve both professionals and students (on undergraduate and graduate levels) of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering, Chemistry, and Chemical Technology. Beginners in the engineering field, specifically in the oil and gas industry, may also find this book invaluable. Provides balanced coverage of fundamental and operational topics Includes spreadsheets and process simulators for showing trends and simulation case studies Relates processing to planning and management to give an integrated picture of refining

World Refinery Industry written by Lakdasa Wijetilleke and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1984 with Technology & Engineering categories.

The oil refining industry is a critical link in the energy chain in many developing and industrialized countries, transforming crude oil into transport fuels, residual fuel oil, and other products such as kerosene, used in developing countries for lighting and cooking. The present report reviews the physical structure and process configuration of the world refining industry in the mid-1980s. It analyzes the factors influencing demand for petroleum derivatives and forecasts future demand patterns on a regional basis through 1995. Based on this analysis and on the potential for interregional trade in petroleum products, estimates are made of future regional investment requirements in additional conversion capacity, improved energy efficiency, rehabilitation and related areas. The implications of changes in the institutional framework of the industry are also discussed, specifically the expansion in the role of publicly-owned national oil companies relative to the private multinationals. Policy issues examined include the pricing of petroleum products, the frequent need for corporate, financial and managerial restructuring in the public sector and the potential future role of private capital.
