Low Speed Aerodynamics written by Joseph Katz and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001-02-05 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Low-speed aerodynamics is important in the design and operation of aircraft flying at low Mach number, and ground and marine vehicles. This 2001 book offers a modern treatment of the subject, both the theory of inviscid, incompressible, and irrotational aerodynamics and the computational techniques now available to solve complex problems. A unique feature of the text is that the computational approach (from a single vortex element to a three-dimensional panel formulation) is interwoven throughout. Thus, the reader can learn about classical methods of the past, while also learning how to use numerical methods to solve real-world aerodynamic problems. This second edition has a new chapter on the laminar boundary layer (emphasis on the viscous-inviscid coupling), the latest versions of computational techniques, and additional coverage of interaction problems. It includes a systematic treatment of two-dimensional panel methods and a detailed presentation of computational techniques for three-dimensional and unsteady flows. With extensive illustrations and examples, this book will be useful for senior and beginning graduate-level courses, as well as a helpful reference tool for practising engineers.

Span Loadings Due To Wing Twist At Transonic And Supersonic Speeds written by Frederick C. Grant and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1957 with Aerodynamic load categories.

Two similar tapered sweptback plan forms with the same two spanwise variations of twist have been tested in the Mach number range from 0.8 to 2.0. The test results showed, in general, rather good agreement with theoretical predictions of the incremental span loadings due to twist for zero angle of attack. The measured incremental span loadings due to twist generally diminished with increasing angle of attack through the Mach number range. At a Mach number of 0.9, the incremental loadings progressively vanished from the tip inboard with increasing angle of attack. For the highest angles of attack (about 20 degrees) at Mach number 0.9, there was no difference in the span loadings of the flat and twisted wings. At a higher supersonic speeds, a similar vanishing at the tips of the incremental loading due to twist was starting at the highest angles of attack (near 20 degrees).

The indicial lift and pitching-moment coefficients are derived for flat-plate triangular wings at supersonic speeds. Coefficients are determined for angle-of-attack distributions corresponding to sinking and pitching wings. The wing with supersonic edges is completely analyzed, the wing with subsonic edges is partially analyzed; the solution in this case being completed for very narrow wings by an application of slender wing theory. In case of the supersonic edges, a comparison is made with known two-dimensional results and also with results for the same triangular wing in reversed flow.

An investigation has been made in the Langley 300-MPH 7- by 10-foot tunnel to determine the aerodynamic characteristics of a related series of parawings in which wing sweep was the primary variable. The leading-edge sweep angles varied from 400 to 750 and the three basic parawings had flat-planform sweep angles of 350, 450, and 550. The canopies of the wings were made of fabric. Tests were made at an airspeed of 38.6 mph and a Reynolds number of approximately 1.5 X 106. The maximum angle-of-attack range was from 140 to 530 for the wings having a canopy of 350 flat-planform sweep. A limited investigation of lateral characteristics was made for sideslip angles from approximately -50 to 160 for two angles of attack, and lateral stability derivatives were obtained for some configurations through a angle-of-attack range. Forces and moments acting on the wing and apex hinge moments were measured.

With its fleet of large transport aircraft, the United States military can put personnel and equipment anywhere on the globe within hours. In the Iraq and Afghanistan wars in particular, virtually every soldier, every bullet, every pint of blood, and every bite of food have arrived in the war zone by airlift. This book tells the story of one Air National Guard airlift wing as related by its members. The 167th Airlift Wing of the West Virginia Air National Guard consisted of a squadron of 12 C-130 cargo planes, their crews, and all the supporting sections--in all, more than 1,200 people. The author, a former Associated Press reporter turned aviator, flew as an active member of that unit and interviewed nearly 70 servicemen and women for this book. They include aircrews who dodged heat-seeking missiles, mechanics who made combat repairs, flight nurses who treated and transported the wounded, even two motor pool truck drivers struck by a roadside bomb.
