An acclaimed nutrition educator reveals how the foods you’re eating to get healthy might be making you sick. “Sally Norton’s well-researched book makes a truly important contribution to the literature in revealing just how much oxalates can damage the human body.”—Nina Teicholz, author of The Big Fat Surprise If you’re eating a healthy diet and you’re still dealing with fatigue, inflammation, anxiety, recurrent injuries, or chronic pain, the problem could be your spinach, almonds, sweet potatoes, and other trusted plant foods. And your key to vibrant health may be quitting these so-called superfoods. After suffering for decades from chronic health problems, nutrition educator Sally K. Norton, MPH, discovered that the culprits were the chemical toxins called oxalates lurking within her “healthy,” organic plant-heavy diet. She shines light on how our modern diets are overloaded with oxalates and offers fresh solutions including: • A complete, research-backed program to safely reverse your oxalate load • Comprehensive charts and resources on foods to avoid and better alternatives • Guidance to improve your energy, optimize mood and brain performance, and find true relief from chronic pain In this groundbreaking guide, Norton reveals that the popular dictum to “eat more plants” can be misleading. Toxic Superfoods gives health-seekers a chance for improved energy, optimum brain performance, graceful aging, and true relief from chronic pain.

Oxalate Metabolism In Relation To Urinary Stone written by G. Alan Rose and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Medical categories.

"Oxalate Metabolism in Relation to Urinary Stone" is the third monograph to appear in the "Bloomsbury Series". Edited by Alan Rose, the book describes the current clinical and biochemical features of oxalate metabolism. Its content and direction fulfil the goals of the Series emphasising the strong links between basic science and clinical medicine. London Jack Tinker 30 March 1988 Preface The first oxalate workshop was held in London in 1979 and the proceedings published privately by the Wellcome Foundation. At that time the importance of urinary oxalate as a risk factor more important for calcium oxalate stone formation than urinary calcium had been recognized. Nevertheless measurements of urinary oxalate still left a lot to be desired and in particular the non-enzymatic conversion of ascorbate to oxalate had not been rediscovered so that many measurements must have been wrong. Plasma oxalate was still difficult or impossible to measure by any reasonable, accessible methods and consequently there was still much argument and speculation about the handling of oxalate by the kidneys. A lot of work has been performed in the last eight years on oxalate metabolism and it therefore seemed to the organisers to be a good time to hold a second oxalate workshop.

Oxalate: Structure, Functions and Occurrence first summarizes the various factors contributing to calculi formation, along with different therapeutic measures including medicinal plants/drugs which have been experimentally proven to exhibit antiurolithiatic activity employing various mechanisms. The authors discuss the known transition metal oxalates, their synthetic analogues, thermal and magnetic behaviour, and reaction pathways, particularly for energy materials such as Li ion, as well as supercapacitor and redox flow battery systems.A number of possible synthetic pathways for the generation of oxalic acid in plants and fungi are presented and briefly discussed. An important number of studies have shown that ascorbic acid is the major substrate for the synthesis of oxalic acid in plants. Therefore, the so called "Wheeler-Smirnoff" mechanism, which explains the biosynthesis of ascorbic acid in the plant kingdom, is discussed in detail.Lastly, this compilation explores how hyperoxaluria can be a pathway through which kidney dysfunction occurs in persons due to diabetes mellitus or obesity and thus lead to a gradual deterioration of renal function.
