Gegenstand der Studie ist die Krise des deutschen konservativen Wohlfahrtsstaates. Die Ausarbeitung zeigt hier zun„chst die Faktoren sowie die Struktur der Krise auf und versucht in einem zweiten Schritt Reformvorschl„ge aus wirtschaftspolitischen Theorieans„tzen abzuleiten. Seit Anfang der siebziger Jahre l„sst sich eine Strukturkrise des konservativen Wohlfahrtsstaates ausmachen, die sich mit jeder weiteren konjunkturellen Rezession heftiger auf die Gesellschaft auswirkt. Der Beginn der Krise kann mit den Energiekrisen der siebziger und achtziger Jahre und ihrer verheerenden Wirkung auf die Wirtschaft ausgemacht werden. Des Weiteren lassen sich Faktoren wie die strukturelle Ver„nderung der Volkswirtschaft, die negative demographische Entwicklung, die hohen Arbeitslosenquoten, das politischen Konstrukt und seine Vetospieler und die ?Globalisierung? annehmen. In dem deutschen Beispiel kommen zu den oben genannten Faktoren eine schlechtere Ausgangslage fr die ™konomie nach dem zweiten Weltkrieg und die Kosten der Wiedervereinigung hinzu. Die Einteilung der Wohlfahrtsstaaten im vorliegenden Buch basiert auf den Typologien von G”sta Esping Andersen, welcher drei verschiedene Typen von Wohlfahrtsstaaten unterstellt und diese mithilfe der Abh„ngigkeit ihrer Sozialsysteme vom Arbeitsmarkt kategorisiert. In diesem Modell wird der deutsche Wohlfahrtsstaat als konservativ korporatistisch bezeichnet. Der Hauptteil der Analyse besch„ftigt sich mit der Problembew„ltigung anderer wohlfahrtsstaatlicher Modelle in Anbetracht ihrer Krisen und soll damit dem konservativen Wohlfahrtsstaat wirtschaftspolitische Auswege aus der Bedr„ngnis aufzeigen. Hierzu werden liberale wirtschaftstheoretische Ans„tze am Beispiel Groábritanniens sowie sozialdemokratische wirtschaftstheoretische Ans„tze an den skandinavischen L„ndern, hier insbesondere Schweden, er”rtert und die Wirkungsweise dieser Ans„tze an wirtschafts- politischen Reformen abgeleitet. Mit dem Vergleich von wirtschaftspolitischen Reformen werden m”gliche Auswege fr die Bew„ltigung der gegenw„rtigen Krise des deutschen Wohlfahrtsstaates aufgezeigt. Mithilfe der empirischen Beispiele k”nnen negative Auswirkungen fr die BRD ausgeschlossen sowie positive Auswirkungen gef”rdert werden. Ungewiss ist aber, ob sich diese theoretischen Ans„tze in gleicher Form auf das System der BRD auswirken. Auáerdem ist fraglich, inwiefern die historisch geschaffenen Institutionen und die daraus entstandene Pfadabh„ngigkeit des konservativ- korporatistischen Wohlfahrtsstaates solche massiv liberale Reformen wie in den angels„chsischen L„ndern oder sozialdemokratischen Reformen wie in Skandinavien zulassen.
