Das für uns Menschen überhaupt Wirkliche, das nach und nach Erscheinende, ist zu beobachten und zu beschreiben. Die vorliegende Untersuchung tut dies im Nachgang und anhand der Werke Kants, Schleiermachers und Heideggers. Dabei zeigt sich: das Erscheinende verweist auf das transzendente Zu-erkennen-Vorgegebensein, mithin auf den Transzendenzbezug all unserer prozessual verfassten Wirklichkeit. Konkreter Ort der Erscheinung der transzendenten Konstitution all unserer Wirklichkeit ist die personale Gegenwart Jesu Christi. Evangelische Theologie ist zu entfalten als Phänomenologie der Zeit Gottes. [Phenomenology and the reference to transcendence in the work of Kant, Schleiermacher and Heidegger] What is real to us human beings, which is becoming apparent only bit by bit, is to be observed and described. This is what this study is set out to do, drawing on the works of Kant, Schleiermacher and Heidegger. In the process of examination, it becomes apparent that the process of revelation always points towards the transcendent god who can be sensed, whilst revealing our given reality. It is the personal presence of Jesus Christ which constitutes - in a transcendent manner - our whole reality. Thus, protestant theology needs to be constructed as a phenomenology of the time of God.

In a world of global communication, where each one’s life depends increasingly on signs, language and communication, understanding how we relate and opening ourselves to otherness, to differences in all their forms and aspects is becoming more and more relevant. Today, we often understand the differences in terms of adversity or opposition and forget the value of the similarities. Semiotic approaches can provide a critical point of view and a more general reflection that can redefine some aspects of the discussion about the nature of these semiotic categories, differences and similarities. The dichotomy differences – similarities is fundamental to understanding the meaning-making mechanisms in language (De Saussure, 1966; Deleuze, 1995), as well as in other sign systems (Ponzio, 1995; Sebeok & Danesi, 2000). Meaning always appears in the “play of differences” (Derrida, 1978) and similarities. Therefore, the phenomena of similarities and differences must be considered complementary (Marcus, 2011). This book addresses and offers new perspectives for analyzing and understanding sensitive topics in the world of global communication (humanities education, responsive understanding of otherness, digital culture and new media power).

The enactment of humanity begins with experiences and culminates in the effects of coping with experiences. Experience confirms the human potential, but indicates also its limitations, both in the sense that the absence of experiences undermines established modes of behavior, and that disregard and misunderstanding of experiences lead to distorted forms of personal and cultural relations. This book is an attempt to localize religion, as well as the study of religions, within the context of experiences and as a topic of philosophical inquiry. Focusing on the question of specifically religious experiences and investigating various models of the relationship between religion and experience, the study suggests that no specific experiences are needed to understand the emergence and development of religious traditions and attitudes. Assessing the implications of basic questions and attitudes in religious studies, it presents a theory of religion which is rooted in the internal dynamics of being human and cultural, and marked by a culture-oriented understanding of philosophy. The book concludes with a discussion of various phenomena which can be addressed as modes and forms of implicit religion, since they do not comply with expectations of traditional or explicit religion.
