Tworzy opowieść o romantycznych piosenkach i najntisowych pragnieniach, o polo-artystkach, boysbandach z małych miejscowości i o discopolowej wyobraźni. Jednocześnie analizuje też reakcję ze strony elit, które disco polo uznały za najgorszy przejaw kultury masowej i dowód na kryzys polskiej wyobraźni. Polski bajer to pierwsza książka o disco polo bez uprzedzeń. Monika Borys - kulturoznawczyni, dziennikarka, badaczka peryferyjnych wizualności. Jest absolwentką Uniwersytetu w Białymstoku i Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego, doktorantką w Instytucie Kultury Polskiej na Uniwersytecie Warszawskim. Publikowała m.in. w „Gazecie Wyborczej”, „Praktyce Teoretycznej”, „Widoku. Teoriach i Praktykach Kultury Wizualnej” i „Dwutygodniku”. Pochodzi z Podlasia, mieszka w Warszawie. Environmental engineering has a leading role in the elimination of ecological threats, and deals, in brief, with securing technically the conditions which create a safe environment for mankind to live in. Due to its interdisciplinary character it can deal with a wide range of technical and technological problems. Since environmental engineering uses the knowledge of the basic sciences – biology, chemistry, biochemistry and physics – it is able to neutralise pollution in all the elements of the environment, i.e. the hydrosphere, atmosphere and lithosphere. Moreover, environmental engineering deals with the design and maintenance of systems of water supply, sewage disposal, heating, ventilation and air-conditioning in buildings. Environmental Engineering IV contains 77 peer reviewed papers selected from 527 presented at the 4th Congress of Environmental Engineering (Lublin, Poland, 2-5 September 2012). The contributions are divided into 7 chapters: • Water supply • Water and wastewater treatment • Neutralization of solid wastes and sludge • Air protection and quality • Indoor microclimate • Energy • Biology and technology Environmental Engineering IV assesses the state of scientific research in various areas of environmental engineering, evaluates the organizational, technical and technological progress made in contributing to ecological security, and determines the place of environmental engineering in sustainable development, taking into account current political and economic conditions, and is a valuable source of information for the environmental engineering professional and academic community.

This book examines the interface between Polish popular music and screen media against the background of Polish history, cinema, and popular culture and situates that interface in a local as well as global context. It looks at Polish musicals, biographical films about musicians, documentary films and, finally, music videos. The author draws attention to the immense popularity of musical comedies in Polish interwar cinema, the enduring appeal of musical genres during the period of state socialism, despite their low status in film criticism, and the re-birth of musicals in the 2010s. Mazierska also discusses the most important stars, directors and authors of songs presented in Polish films, and points to the effect of technological changes on inception and transformation of music-centred genres of screen media, including the effect of YouTube on their growth and preservation. The book is informed by the question of how parochial and universal is Polish popular music and its screen representation.

The Lands of Partitioned Poland, 1795-1918 comprehensively covers an important, complex, and controversial period in the history of Poland and East Central Europe, beginning in 1795 when the remnanst of the Polish Commonwealth were distributed among Prussia, Austria, and Russia, and culminating in 1918 with the re-establishment of an independent Polish state. Until this thorough and authoritative study, literature on the subject in English has been limited to a few chapters in multiauthored works. Chronologically, Wandycz traces the histories of the lands under Prussian, Austrian, and Russian rule, pointing out their divergent evolution as well as the threads that bound them together. The result is a balanced, comprehensive picture of the social, political, economic, and cultural developments of all nationalities inhabiting the land of the old commonwealth, rather than a limited history of one state (Poland) and one people (the Poles).
