Essential Cell Biology provides a readily accessible introduction to the central concepts of cell biology, and its lively, clear writing and exceptional illustrations make it the ideal textbook for a first course in both cell and molecular biology. The text and figures are easy-to-follow, accurate, clear, and engaging for the introductory student. Molecular detail has been kept to a minimum in order to provide the reader with a cohesive conceptual framework for the basic science that underlies our current understanding of all of biology, including the biomedical sciences. The Fourth Edition has been thoroughly revised, and covers the latest developments in this fast-moving field, yet retains the academic level and length of the previous edition. The book is accompanied by a rich package of online student and instructor resources, including over 130 narrated movies, an expanded and updated Question Bank. Essential Cell Biology, Fourth Edition is additionally supported by the Garland Science Learning System. This homework platform is designed to evaluate and improve student performance and allows instructors to select assignments on specific topics and review the performance of the entire class, as well as individual students, via the instructor dashboard. Students receive immediate feedback on their mastery of the topics, and will be better prepared for lectures and classroom discussions. The user-friendly system provides a convenient way to engage students while assessing progress. Performance data can be used to tailor classroom discussion, activities, and lectures to address students’ needs precisely and efficiently. Introduction To Bryophytes written by Alain Vanderpoorten and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-05-28 with Science categories.

Bryophytes were a pivotal step in land plant evolution, and their significance in the regulation of ecosystems and the conservation of biodiversity is becoming increasingly acknowledged. This introductory textbook assumes no prior knowledge of bryophyte biology, making it ideal for advanced undergraduate and graduate students, as well as amateur botanists. The authors expertly summarise the diversity of bryophytes and outline recent advances in our understanding of their evolutionary history, their ecological roles and preferences, their distribution patterns and conservation needs. The text is highly illustrated throughout, with boxed summaries of topics of current relevance in bryophyte biology, and a glossary of technical terms.

Molecular Biology In Medicine written by Timothy M. Cox and has been published by Wiley-Blackwell this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1997-05-12 with Medical categories.

This text fuses science and medicine, clearly demonstrating the clinical relevance of microbiology, and the way in which this rapidly emerging discipline is beginning to reshape the way disease is investigated and how patients are screened, diagnosed and treated. The first part of the book summarises knowledge of basic cell biology with clear and lucid descriptions of how genes work and how the study of human variation and heredity is applied to medical practice. A detailed analysis of Heamophilia A provides a paradigm for the use of molecular biology in the study and treatment of inherited disease. The second section takes the reader through the systematic approaches to studying genes, and provides an entry point for clinicians and researchers who wish to investigate a disease themselves or interpret the experiments of others. The third section shows how molecular biology has been used in medical research to investigate the mechanisms of common diseases; and the final section identifies areas where molecular biology has been used to diagnose and treat disease. It looks at the principles and practice of gene therapy and the design and production of recombinant products for medical use. The book closes with a description of how molecular biology has impinged upon prenatal diagnosis, and the ethical considerations which this raises.

While preparing the first edition of this textbook I attended an extension short course on writing agricultural publications. The message I remember was "select your audience and write to it. " There has never been any doubt about the audience for which this textbook was written, the introductory course in crop breeding. In addition, it has become a widely used reference for the graduate plant-breeding student and the practicing plant breeder. In its prepa ration, particular attention has been given to advances in plant-breeding theo ry and their utility in plant-breeding practice. The blend of the theoretical with the practical has set this book apart from other plant-breeding textbooks. The basic structure and the objectives of the earlier editions remain un changed. These objectives are (1) to review essential features of plant re production, Mendelian genetic principles, and related genetic developments applicable in plant-breeding practice; (2) to describe and evaluate established and new plant-breeding procedures and techniques, and (3) to discuss plant breeding objectives with emphasis on the importance of proper choice of objec tive for achieving success in variety development. Because plant-breeding activities are normally organized around specific crops, there are chapters describing breeding procedures and objectives for the major crop plants; the crops were chosen for their economic importance or diversity in breeding sys tems. These chapters provide a broad overview of the kinds of problems with which the breeder must cope.

"Forest Ecology" uses an ecosystem approach to understanding the ecology of forests. It examines the form and function of forest ecosystems and how they change over time in response to natural and human-caused disturbances. A complete treatment of the ecosystem including all the major structural components and functional processes of the forest ecosystem. This book examines forest ecology in the context of sustainable development and population growth. Gives equal emphasis to ecosystem function, the physical environment, the biotic processes (population and community ecology) and ecosystem change overtime.
