En el año 1949 tiene lugar la aparición de la primera obra sobre Patología Psicosomática que se edita en nuestro país, obra del preclaro Dr .J .Rof Carballo. Muy probablemente, tanto en aquél entonces como a día de hoy, insuperable en el mundo entero. En ella se afirmaba: la orientación psicosomática ha de considerarse en el momento presente como una obligación inexcusable de toda clínica médica bien hecha. Más tarde añadirá: esta orientación psicosomática de la medicina, se nos muestra como un destino inexcusable, y ya irreversible, de la Medicina del hombre del siglo XX. La voz, a juzgar por la evolución de los acontecimientos, lamentablemente clamó en el desierto. La burocracia, los tecnicismos y el trato impersonal han conseguido una trayectoria de la medicina en las antípodas de la encarnada por nuestra insigne figura, nunca reconocida en sus justos méritos y alcance de su aporte científico a la medicina antropológica. El aporte de éste libro no es más que compendiar la esencia de su obra médica, lo que ha sido posible gracias a la contribución para la praxis que el inolvidable profesor A. Fernández Cruz, posibilitó al honrar al autor de este libro con la Jefatura de un Servicio de Medicina Psicosomática. Servicio que permaneció activo hasta el momento de su jubilación.
