Rafael Trujillo, dictator of the Dominican Republic from 1930 until his assassination in 1961, is still heavily mythologized among Dominicans to this day. God and Trujillo, the first book-length study of works about the Dominican dictator, seeks to explain how some of those myths were created by analyzing novels and testimonials about Trujillo from Dominican writers to canonical Latin American authors, including Mario Vargas Llosa and Gabriel García Márquez. Trujillo's quasi-mythological figure created a compelling corpus of literary works. Ignacio López-Calvo's study offers a vigorous analysis of 36 narrative texts. He analyzes the representation of the dictator as a mythological figure, his legacy, the role of his doubles, his favorite courtiers and acolytes, and the role of women during the so-called Era of Trujillo. He also traces the evolution and significance of these narratives from a theoretical perspective that falls within the cultural studies framework. The study of the Dominican testimonio and the unveiling of the Taino myth in the "Trujillato narratives" are particularly innovative. In addition, he describes class antagonism and the demythification of the leftist militant in the Trujillato narratives. He also offers an illuminating account of the Dominican left and of the anti-Trujillo resistance as contained in Dominican literature.

La ley 8/2021, de 2 de junio, por la que se reforma la legislación civil y procesal para el apoyo a las personas con discapacidad en el ejercicio de su capacidad jurídica introduce en el Código civil un nuevo sistema basado en el derecho a decidir de las personas con discapacidad. Estas son las principales líneas que se han tratado en esta obra:• La nueva regulación da preferencia a los poderes preventivos, en especial la autocuratela.• Se lleva a cabo un cambio en la concepción de la guarda de hecho que pasa a ser una institución jurídica de apoyo más permanente.• La curatela será meramente asistencial y, solo por excepción, tendrá naturaleza representativa.• Desaparece para las personas con discapacidad la tutela, la patria potestad prorrogada y rehabilitada por no ser instituciones acordes con la autonomía de la persona.• En el ámbito familiar cambian ciertas normas sobre los efectos de las crisis matrimoniales cuando haya hijos mayores de edad con discapacidad.• En materia sucesoria, lo más relevante es que desaparece la sustitución ejemplar y se modifica la concepción de la sustitución fideicomisaria.• La consideración de las personas con discapacidad como sujetos susceptibles de actuar con conciencia y voluntad implica un correlativo cambio en el concepto de imputación subjetiva en la responsabilidad civil por hecho propio y en una nueva y más restringida concepción de la responsabilidad por hecho ajeno.• El objetivo del nuevo procedimiento judicial será valorar en qué medida la discapacidad que tiene esa persona, puede afectar al ejercicio y cumplimiento de sus derechos y deberes, pero no se debe acordar nada sobre la limitación o anulación de su capacidad.• En relación con las medidas de carácter socio laboral se aborda la mayor autonomía personal, la integración y acceso al empleo de las personas afectadas por una discapacidad y las estrategias y regulación que proporciona la Unión Europea en esta materia.En definitiva, esta reforma amplia y contundente pone de manifiesto un cambio de mentalidad para todos los operadores jurídicos, reconociendo la plena capacidad jurídica, la dignidad de la persona y su derecho a tener los apoyos necesarios para tomar decisiones. Se centra en la voluntad, las preferencias y deseos de la persona, siempre con las salvaguardas necesarias para evitar los conflictos de intereses o influencias indebidas.
