Most people look to religion and science (faith and reason) for an explanation of “everything that is,” but neither the scientific nor the religious system can actually provide all the answers to life's questions. Is that really what we're looking for? The author examines both science and religion in some detail and from a variety of standpoints. A life-long educator, he indicates many avenues for further reading, so that no one has to simply accept whatever his family or community traditions may have proposed. One sticking point in most discussions of religion vs. science is that few of us really have enough information about both positions - and the myriad hybrid beliefs in between - in order to make a proper evaluation. As a professor of medicine and an avid investigator of these questions, Dr. Guido Perez offers some background and guidance. The author explores the basics of theism and today's largest religions, and gives a solid grounding in the facts and theoretical basis for evolution and the scientific approach to knowledge. He then explores a possible place to stand in, both morally and intellectually grounded, while we puzzle out our existence: a rational belief system that accounts for what we can account for, while recognizing those mysteries and existential questions we humans just can't seem to stop asking. Dr. Perez proposes a rational belief system grounded in natural science and humanism, an approach where morality comes naturally - not because we fear divine punishment but because we inherently understand what is good for humanity.

With this book I try to dispel many doubts and shed light on various misunderstandings, for example, about the meaning of the Bible and its historical value. I also intend to remove so much existing confusion about respecting the Sabbath and the value of the Ten Commandments, as a Mosaic law and as a universal law. Now, the next set of issues here are directly aimed at the Christian faith and the mediocrity of the average believer. What is the role of the Christian? What is it to be a Christian? And not only that, is one justified by faith without works, because of grace? What does the I deal here with the whole matter of grace, works, fruits and Salvation, in great detail, to avoid confusion, comfort and mediocrity, but rather a broad understanding of the role of the Christian in the Body of Christ. Although, we manage the material in 3 groups: Religions, Israel (its law and history) and Apostasy (the degeneration of Christianity). The work "Reality or Religion" handles and breaks down the most touching points in the debates on religion, especially Christian. To begin with, it clarifies the meanings of the most common words that have been misunderstood and manages biblical mistranslations. This work also tries to reconcile the approach of the beliefs and doctrines of the world in the light of the Scriptures, its own foundations and other elements. In this treatise I also talk about the great problem of idolatry and all the gear that entangles to distance people from God. I also speak about another topic of strong debate: tithes. What are they? Do they have to be respected? How are they consecrated? Who are they given to? Why is it given so much importance? Etc.

That the longstanding antagonism between science and religion is irreconcilable has been taken for granted. And in the wake of recent controversies over teaching intelligent design and the ethics of stem-cell research, the divide seems as unbridgeable as ever.In Science vs. Religion, Elaine Howard Ecklund investigates this unexamined assumption in the first systematic study of what scientists actually think and feel about religion. In the course of her research, Ecklund surveyed nearly 1,700 scientists and interviewed 275 of them. She finds that most of what we believe about the faith lives of elite scientists is wrong. Nearly 50 percent of them are religious. Many others are what she calls "spiritual entrepreneurs," seeking creative ways to work with the tensions between science and faith outside the constraints of traditional religion. The book centers around vivid portraits of 10 representative men and women working in the natural and social sciences at top American research universities. Ecklund's respondents run the gamut from Margaret, a chemist who teaches a Sunday-school class, to Arik, a physicist who chose not to believe in God well before he decided to become a scientist. Only a small minority are actively hostile to religion. Ecklund reveals how scientists-believers and skeptics alike-are struggling to engage the increasing number of religious students in their classrooms and argues that many scientists are searching for "boundary pioneers" to cross the picket lines separating science and religion. With broad implications for education, science funding, and the thorny ethical questions surrounding stem-cell research, cloning, and other cutting-edge scientific endeavors, Science vs. Religion brings a welcome dose of reality to the science and religion debates.

The Word And The Spiritual Realities The I And The Thou written by Ferdinand Ebner and has been published by CUA Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021 with Philosophy categories.

This volume will constitute the first published English translation of Ferdinand Ebner’s seminal 1921 work, Das Wort und die geistigen realitäten – long available in major languages but never in English. It is frequently compared with Martin Buber’s, I and Thou, published in 1923, which actually draws its central I-Thou insight from Ebner. In recent centuries, Philosophy reflects a turn toward the autonomous subject vs. a biblical sense of person. The limits/failures of science manifest in the horrors of World War I led to the emergence of a “Dialogical Personalist Philosophy” in reaction to the universal doubt of Cartesian thought and to German Idealism, which engages the idea or representation but not the reality of “things-in-themselves.” The core of Ebner: human speech is constitutive of human existence: humans are given the "word." "Having the word" is a miraculous gift from God. It is only in the word, in language, that an "I" meets a "Thou," that relationship and self-identity can occur, and this word is given in Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh: “In the beginning was the Word”; Jesus, the Logos of St. John's Gospel, mediates between God and man and “stands” between I and Thou. It is through Jesus that it is possible to address God in the human thou. The key to life’s meaning, to the centrality of relationship, and to God's continuous action in His creation, is found in the I-Thou question: why the I can never be found in itself, and so must look in the thou, while the false I will try to possess the thou as an object of power. This is Ebner's critique of idealist thought: reality, truth, and personal identity are neither ideas, nor found in ideas, therefore, Descartes' cogito must be rejected, for the existence of the I can't be founded or proved by solitary thinking, but only in relation with a thou.

Faith Versus Fact written by Jerry A. Coyne and has been published by Penguin this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-05-19 with Science categories.

The New York Times bestselling author explains why any attempt to make religion compatible with science is doomed to fail. What we read in the news today is full of subjectivity, half-truths, and blatant falsehoods; and thus it is more necessary now than ever to safeguard the truth with facts. In his provocative new book, evolutionary biologist Jerry A. Coyne aims to do exactly that in the arena of religion. In clear, dispassionate detail he explains why the toolkit of science, based on reason and empirical study, is reliable, while that of religion—including faith, dogma, and revelation—leads to incorrect, untestable, or conflicting conclusions. Coyne is responding to a national climate in which over half of Americans don’t believe in evolution (and congressmen deny global warming), and warns that religious prejudices and strictures in politics, education, medicine, and social policy are on the rise. Extending the bestselling works of Richard Dawkins, Daniel Dennett, and Christopher Hitchens, he demolishes the claims of religion to provide verifiable “truth” by subjecting those claims to the same tests we use to establish truth in science. Coyne irrefutably demonstrates the grave harm—to individuals and to our planet—in mistaking faith for fact in making the most important decisions about the world we live in.

The God Myth and Reality: Jake McCoy, construction worker and young man grew up in northern Indiana farm country. He was engaged to a beautiful young woman, Jan, who was three months pregnant and they were engaged to be married, live a wonderful life, share their religious beliefs, and enjoy Midwestern life to the fullest that their backgrounds would allow. Madly in love, feeling on top of the world, planning a fantastic life together, they did not realize a catastrophe was headed their way. Jan was assaulted, raped, lost her pregnancy and progressed into a severe depression which ended up with the loss of her life. Jake, angry, depressed and grieving blamed God for causing this and wondered why a caring God would do such a thing to them. He lost his belief in God, became bitter with religion and questioned whether there was a God or just science and the earth. He joined the Navy, suppressing his feelings, and yet wondering if there really is a God or Supreme Being. His life would be a long journey of investigation, exploring possibilities and wondering if God was real, science, or imagination. Many questions can be answered, but in the end it is a question of whether you believe or don’t believe—that is the question.
