I often order memory to unroll slowly before my mental vision the panorama of my past life. Upon some of the scenes I look with a strong desire to chain the wheels that move them from view, but with others those wheels cannot turn too quickly. The first picture I call up stands out clearly defined. I see myself as a boy again, landing on America's shore, with the pleasures of hope shining in my eyes, - for a good fairy has touched the new land with her magic wand, and every object I look upon is strangely beautiful.
