The tormented soul of a beast. Created to be a mindless, bloodthirsty monster, Varnog chose to live an honorable life instead. From the day he joined the Vanguard, he's only had eyes for one female. Petite and delicate in appearance, she awakens his protective instincts and a deep longing for something he can never have. However, his Linette has no need for protection. The elite pilot and Senior Officer of the Vanguard kicks ass and takes names with the best of them. With the final war against the Kryptid General looming on the horizon, he and Linette are called upon to help prepare the Vanguard and their allies for that ultimate confrontation. But how can he when his every instinct demands he slaughters those he has pledged loyalty to? How can he persevere when many among the Coalition perceive him and his brothers as no more than the parasites they were born to be? What hope is there when claiming the one female to have ever touched his heart could turn her into an even greater abomination than he believes himself to be?

This study traces the history of San Isidoro in León from a small eleventh-century palatine chapel housed in a double monastery to a great twelfth-century pilgrimage church. Its most groundbreaking contribution to the history of art is the recovery of the lost patronage of Queen Urraca (reigned 1109-1126).

The stigmatization as 'bastards' of children born outside of wedlock is commonly thought to have emerged early in Medieval European history. Christian ideas about legitimate marriage, it is assumed, set the standard for legitimate birth. Children born to anything other than marriage had fewer rights or opportunities. They certainly could not become king or queen. As this volume demonstrates, however, well into the late twelfth century, ideas of what made a child a legitimate heir had little to do with the validity of his or her parents' union according to the dictates of Christian marriage law. Instead a child's prospects depended upon the social status, and above all the lineage, of both parents. To inherit a royal or noble title, being born to the right father mattered immensely, but also being born to the right kind of mother. Such parents could provide the most promising futures for their children, even if doubt was cast on the validity of the parents' marriage. Only in the late twelfth century did children born to illegal marriages begin to suffer the same disadvantages as the children born to parents of mixed social status. Even once this change took place we cannot point to 'the Church' as instigator. Instead, exclusion of illegitimate children from inheritance and succession was the work of individual litigants who made strategic use of Christian marriage law. This new history of illegitimacy rethinks many long-held notions of medieval social, political, and legal history.

Eleanor Of Aquitaine written by B. Wheeler and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-04-30 with History categories.

Eleanor's patrilineal descent, from a lineage already prestigious enough to have produced an empress in the eleventh century, gave her the lordship of Aquitaine. But marriage re-emphasized her sex which, in the medieval scheme of gender-power relations relegated her to the position of Lady in relation to her Lordly husbands. In this collection, essays provide a context for Eleanor's life and further an evolving understanding of Eleanor's multifaceted career. A valuable collection on the greatest heiress of the medieval period.
