In seinem Werk Die Regeln der Kunst (Originaltitel: Les r gles de l' art) setzt sich der franz sische Soziologe Pierre Bourdieu mit den Produzenten von kulturellen Produkten auseinander. Dabei untersucht er die Produzenten von franz sischer Literatur und entwickelt so eine Theorie, mit der er versucht auch "[...] f r die Gesamtheit der Felder der kulturellen Produktion g ltige S tze abzuleiten." Obwohl Die Regeln der Kunst haupts chlich das Feld literarischer Produktion untersucht, kann der theoretische Ansatz also durchaus als eine Art 'theoretischer Baukasten' f r alle Produzenten von kulturellen Produkten verstanden werden. Das spiegelt sich auch in der f r Bourdieu typischen Arbeitsweise wieder. So u ert er sich dazu in einem bereits 1991 gef hrten Interview: "Mit meiner Analyse eines historischen Falls liefere ich ein Programm f r andere empirische Analysen unter anderen Verh ltnissen als den von mir untersuchten. Sie ist eine Aufforderung zur sch pferischen Lekt re und zur theoretischen Induktion, die von einem gut konstruierten besonderen Fall ausgehend verallgemeinert." Genau solch eine Analyse findet in dieser Arbeit am Fall des deutschen H rfunks statt. Hierbei wird Bourdieus Feldtheorie f r kulturelle Produzenten angewendet, um den deutschen H rfunk als Feld der kulturellen Produktion zu konstruieren und dabei zu untersuchen. Neben einer Best tigung der bourdieuschen Theorie werden auch die g ltigen Grunds tze bzw. Werte des Feldes bestimmt, nach denen sich alle H rfunk-Sender in Deutschland richten m ssen bzw. von denen ihre Existenz abh ngt. Au erdem wird untersucht, wie sich die Relevanz der einzelnen Werte bei den ver-schiedenen Arten von H rfunk-Sendern unterscheidet, damit sie dann in einem Feld positioniert und somit in Verh ltnis gebracht werden k nnen. Spatially explicit data on the location of species across broad geographic areas greatly facilitate effective conservation planning on lands managed for multiple uses. The importance of these data notwithstanding, our knowledge about the geography of biodiversity is remarkably incomplete. An important factor contributing to our ignorance is that much of the biodiversity data are not readily accessible because they are dispersed across many institutions and often have not been digitized. This report documents our efforts to address these conservation planning constraints. We have compiled extant data on predicted species distributions and more than 680,000 occurrence records for terrestrial vertebrates and butterflies into a single digital database for general use in conducting geographically broad biodiversity assessments across a two-state area (Arizona and New Mexico) that defines the Southwestern Region of the USDA, Forest Service. These data represent one of the most complete databases on species occurrence to be compiled for the Southwest. Our objectives are twofold: (1) to document the types, sources, and characteristics of the data comprising the biodiversity database; and (2) to illustrate the utility of the data in addressing applied conservation problems across the Southwestern Region. We report on three case studies that illustrate how the data can be used to generate simple distribution maps using both point locations and predicted ranges, describe the patterns of species richness for seletected taxa across the Southwest, and provide an example of how managers may use the data to identify where potential resource conflicts may be par-ticularly important on National Forest System lands.
