Muy pocas veces en la Historia hemos visto surgir la llama espléndida del Genio Universal Humano. Podemos mencionar al cartaginés Aníbal Barca, como genio militar que marcó para siempre la historia militar. Siglos más adelante, Leonardo da Vinci fue un genio creativo, espíritu inquieto que se aventuró por las más diversas áreas del conocimiento humano, adelantando a sus contemporáneos el vislumbre de aquello que aún tardaría siglos en realizarse. Nos cuenta cómo su madre le rechazaba y de las burlas continuadas de sus compañeros que lo arrinconaban socialmente. Nos relata sus sentimientos de impotencia, y cómo a los seis años de edad cuando aún era un niño, fue violado cruelmente por considerarle mayor de lo que realmente era. Y se le siguió violando sistemáticamente hasta cumplir los catorce años de edad. Edad en la que prefirió abandonar el grupo y morir antes que continuar viviendo como lo hacía. Los acontecimientos descritos en la novela se iniciaron en una cueva situada en la desembocadura del río Nilo en el mar Mediterráneo y en la República Árabe de Egipto. Cueva que fue la misma donde terminó mi anterior novela “Kira la Matriarca”. A partir de esa cueva se inicia un éxodo de más de dos mil kilómetros y que después de atravesar parte de la República Árabe de Egipto. Franja de Gaza, Israel, Líbano, Siria. Terminaría en la quinta de las cuevas situada cerca de Sir Baraji en la república de Turquía.

This book addresses current developments in transitional justice in Latin America – effectively the first region to undergo concentrated transitional justice experiences in modern times. Using a comparative approach, it examines trajectories in truth, justice, reparations, and amnesties in countries emerging from periods of massive violations of human rights and humanitarian law. The book examines the cases of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Guatemala, El Salvador, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay, developing and applying a common analytical framework to provide a systematic, qualitative and comparative analysis of their transitional justice experiences. More specifically, the book investigates to what extent there has been a shift from impunity towards accountability for past human rights violations in Latin America. Using ‘thick’, but structured, narratives – which allow patterns to emerge, rather than being imposed – the book assesses how the quality, timing and sequencing of transitional justice mechanisms, along with the context in which they appear, have mattered for the nature and impact of transitional justice processes in the region.
