Today, it often seems as though Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ARTs) have reached a stage of normalization, at least in some countries and among certain social groups. Apparently some practices – for example in vitro fertilization (IVF) – have become standard worldwide. The contributors to Assisted Reproduction Across Borders argue against normalization as an uncontested overall trend. This volume reflects on the state of the art of ARTs. From feminist perspectives, the contributors focus on contemporary political debates triggered by ARTs. They examine the varying ways in which ARTs are interpreted and practised in different contexts, depending on religious, moral and political approaches. Assisted Reproduction Across Borders embeds feminist analysis of ARTs across a wide variety of countries and cultural contexts, discussing controversial practices such as surrogacy from the perspective of the global South as well as the global North as well as inequalities in terms of access to IVF. This volume will appeal to scholars and students of anthropology, ethnography, philosophy, political science, history, sociology, film studies, media studies, literature, art history, area studies, and interdisciplinary areas such as gender studies, cultural studies, and postcolonial studies.

Reproductive Sciences In Animal Conservation written by Pierre Comizzoli and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-08-30 with Science categories.

This second edition emphasizes the environmental impact on reproduction, with updated chapters throughout as well as complete new chapters on species such as sharks and rays. This is a wide-ranging book that will be of relevance to anyone involved in species conservation, and provides critical perspectives on the real utility of current and emerging reproductive sciences. Understanding reproductive biology is centrally important to the way many of the world’s conservation problems should be tackled. Currently the extinction problem is huge, with up to 30% of the world’s fauna being expected to disappear in the next 50 years. Nevertheless, it has been estimated that the global population of animals in zoos encompasses 12,000 – 15,000 species, and we anticipate that every effort will be made to preserve these species for as long as possible, minimizing inbreeding effects and providing the best welfare standards available. Even if the reproductive biology community cannot solve the global biodiversity crisis for all wild species, we should do our best to maintain important captive populations. Reproductive biology in this context is much more than the development of techniques for helping with too little or too much breeding. While some of the relevant techniques are useful for individual species that society might target for a variety of reasons, whether nationalistic, cultural or practical, technical developments have to be backed up by thorough biological understanding of the background behind the problems.

"The economic importance of fishes and their societal and culturalrelevance provide powerful incentives for large-scale, sustainedstudies of their dynamics" —the Editors The overall goal of this book is to give a picture of thepresent use of information on fish reproductive biology inassessment and management and its potential for improvingmanagement of these resources. Compiled by an international team of authors, each an expert intheir field, this exceptional volume is divided into three majorsections: Biology, population dynamics, and recruitment Information critical to successful assessment andmanagement Incorporation of reproductive biology and recruitmentconsiderations into management advice and strategies Including over 100 diagrams, this book is essential reading forall fisheries scientists. Libraries in universities and researchestablishments where this subject is studied and taught should havecopies on their shelves. "As one author put it: the goal is to facilitate a 'dialoguebetween assessment scientists and biologists.' Readers of anyspecialty should accept this challenge, and this book is anexcellent resource to aid them." —Fisheries, March 2010
