George Orwell era um socialista democrático. Vendo, então, os rumos que estava sendo tomados na União Soviética, na era Stalin, resolveu desfechar uma forma crítica a esse gestor. Para chamar mais atenção ele procurou descrever a história tendo por base uma granja onde os animais eram muito maltratados pelo senhor Jones. Assim, esses procuraram se reunir e decidiram por expulsar o cruel granjeiro e implantar o socialismo. No entanto, no decorrer de algum tempo os acontecimentos tomariam o caminho que representava o que ocorria na Rússia stalinista. E daí se dá uma grande história. O poeta Medeiros Braga fez a sua versão em cordel e acrescentou mais em 80 estrofes “Um Sonho Interrompido” para justificar as causas e mostrar que o socialismo não morreu.

Sua narrativa relaciona pessoas, animais e eventos às transformações ocorridas na Rússia (ou URSS) no século 20. Todavia, embora Orwell tenha buscado mostrar uma época específica, sua obra pode --e deve-- ser vista como uma alegoria a qualquer revolução em que os mais fracos tomam o poder e, em seguida, são por ele corrompidos.A ação ocorre na Granja do Solar, dirigida pelo Sr. Jones, que tem sérios problemas de alcoolismo e maltrata seus animais. Publicada em 1945, no auge do regime stalinista, “A Revolução dos Bichos” já começa com essa alusão ao final do czarismo. Afinal, o czar Nicolau 2o era conhecido por seu pouco apreço pela população, preferindo falar francês a russo, segundo relatos históricos, e tinha uma queda pelo álcool.Não faltam paralelos entre personagens do livro e da Revolução Russa. O velho Major, porco sábio e professoral, é uma mistura de Karl Marx, famoso por ter transmitido suas crenças socialistas por meio de textos, repletos de conteúdo revolucionário, baseados na economia e na filosofia, com o Lênin idealista do princípio da revolução. É Major que espalha as sementes da revolução na Granja do Solar, que se tornará a Granja dos Bichos.A exemplo de Marx, foi só após a morte de Major que seus ideais igualitários foram aplicados. Aí surgem Bola-de-Neve e Napoleão, os dois porcos que comandarão o levante dos animais contra o Sr. Jones. Napoleão, partidário do totalitarismo, foi criado para representar Stálin, o mais sanguinário dos líderes soviéticos. Bola-de-Neve tem destino similar ao de Trótski, transformando-se, à custa de muita propaganda, no “inimigo da revolução”.Os cavalos Sansão e Quitéria representam o proletariado. Sem acesso às informações, eles crêem no que lhes conta Garganta, porco que é uma alegoria aos sistemas de propaganda dos regimes totalitários (um tipo de “Pravda” de quatro patas). Sansão é a encarnação irracional do mito criado em torno de Alexei Stakhanov, o mais famoso trabalhador soviético por seu empenho e por sua dedicação
