In the first book to trace the Russian state’s citizenship policy throughout its history, Lohr argues that to understand the citizenship dilemmas Russia faces today, we must return to the less xenophobic and isolationist pre-Stalin period—before the drive toward autarky after 1914 eventually sealed the state off from Europe.

The Russian Reading Revolution written by S. Lovell and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000-02-24 with History categories.

Of all of Soviet cultural myths, none was more resilient than the belief that the USSR had the world's greatest readers. This book explains how the 'Russian reading myth' took hold in the 1920s and 1930s, how it was supported by a monopolistic and homogenizing system of book production and distribution, and how it was challenged in the post-Stalin era; first, by the latent expansion and differentiation of the reading public, and then, more dramatically, by the economic and cultural changes of the 1990s.

Die Russische Freiheit written by Manfred Hagen and has been published by Franz Steiner Verlag this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002 with History categories.

Soviet And Russian Press Coverage Of The United States written by Jonathan A. Becker and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-01-05 with Political Science categories.

This book examines changing Soviet and Russian press coverage of the United States from the emergence of Mikhail Gorbachev through the presidency of Vladimir Putin. A new afterword focuses on recent developments in the Russian media and Russian press coverage of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Becker argues that due to the absence of a language to support the reform strategy, the Soviet press presented positive images of its chief ideological and military opponent, the United States, as a means of supporting political, social and economic reform. He suggests that the end of the Cold War and the emergence of a more self-confident Russia means that the symbolic and discursive significance of the United States for Russia has diminished.
