This book presents respected experts, researchers, and clinicians providing the latest developments in social work knowledge and research. It discusses the latest in mental health research, information on violence, trauma and resilience, and social policies. Different mental health and social work approaches from around the world are examined in detail, including holistic, ethnopsychiatric, and interventions that place emphasis on recovery, empowerment, and social inclusion. This superb selection of presentations—taken from the 4th International Conference on Social Work in Health and Mental Health held in Quebec, Canada in 2004—comprehensively examines the theme of how social work can contribute to the development of a world that values compassion and solidarity. The volume offers a unique opportunity for practitioners, researchers, and others in the field to explore respected experts’ experiences and research which can spark further development of knowledge that can ultimately enrich humanity as a whole. This timely resource springs from the emerging tradition of the sharing of knowledge, an idea now deeply rooted in the international community of social workers in the areas of health and mental health. This volume is extensively referenced and includes figures and tables to clearly detail information. This book is enlightening reading for practitioners, administrators, educators, researchers, and students of social work. This book was published as a special issue of Social Work in Mental Health.

The Securitization Of Society written by Marc Schuilenburg and has been published by NYU Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-11-07 with Political Science categories.

Traditionally, security has been the realm of the state and its uniformed police. However, in the last two decades, many actors and agencies, including schools, clubs, housing corporations, hospitals, shopkeepers, insurers, energy suppliers and even private citizens, have enforced some form of security, effectively changing its delivery, and overall role. In The Securitization of Society, Marc Schuilenburg establishes a new critical perspective for examining the dynamic nature of security and its governance. Rooted in the works of the French philosophers Michel Foucault, Gilles Deleuze and Gabriel Tarde, this book explores the ongoing structural and cultural changes that have impacted security in Western society from the 19th century to the present. By analyzing the new hybrid of public-private security, this volume provides deep insight into the processes of securitization and modern risk management for the police and judicial authorities as well as other emerging parties. Schuilenburg draws upon four case studies of increased securitization in Europe – monitoring marijuana cultivation, urban intervention teams, road transport crime, and the collective shop ban – in order to raise important questions about citizenship, social order, and the law within this expanding new paradigm. An innovative, interdisciplinary approach to criminological theory that incorporates philosophy, sociology, and political science, The Securitization of Society reveals how security is understood and enacted in urban environments today.

Philosophy And Geography Ii written by Andrew Light and has been published by Rowman & Littlefield this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998 with Architecture categories.

Philosophers and geographers have converged on the topic of public space, fascinated and in many ways alarmed by fundamental changes in the way post-industrial societies produce space for public use, and in the way citizens of these same societies perceive and constitute themselves as a public. This volume advances this inquiry, making extensive use of political and social theory, while drawing intimate connections between political principles, social processes, and the commonplaces of our everyday environments.
