The Arrogance of the Modern is a sustained apology for the wisdom of the past. David Hall is not convinced that moderns corner the market on ideas. Indeed, the lust for the progressive has led to numerous intellectual errors. This series of essays--treating subjects ranging from heresies and orthodoxy to welfare reform, piety, science, and politics--returns again and again to Solomon's conclusion about ideas: There is nothing new under the sun. In many ways, some of the ideas of the past were superior.

WHOEVER has had an opportunity of becoming acquainted with the mental condition of the intelligent classes in Europe and America, must have perceived that there is a great and rapidly-increasing departure from the public religious faith, and that, while among the more frank this divergence is not concealed, there is a far more extensive and far more dangerous secession, private and unacknowledged. So wide-spread and so powerful is this secession, that it can neither be treated with contempt nor with punishment. It cannot be extinguished by derision, by vituperation, or by force. The time is rapidly approaching when it will give rise to serious political results. Ecclesiastical spirit no longer inspires the policy of the world. Military fervor in behalf of faith has disappeared. Its only souvenirs are the marble effigies of crusading knights, reposing in the silent crypts of churches on their tombs. That a crisis is impending is shown by the attitude of the great powers toward the papacy. The papacy represents the ideas and aspirations of two-thirds of the population of Europe. It insists on a political supremacy in accordance with its claims to a divine origin and mission, and a restoration of the mediaeval order of things, loudly declaring that it will accept no reconciliation with modern civilization.

Religion Versus Science written by Ron Frost and has been published by John Hunt Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-11 with Religion categories.

As commonly presented the great battle between science and religion over evolution is intractable. This book maintains that the approaches both sides take in the debate drive most of the fury in the debate. Although the facts of evolution are beyond doubt, the big mistake that many scientists make is to present these facts using a materialistic premise that is not scientifically defendable. The resulting model for evolution implies that humans arose on this planet merely by chance, that the value of our lives is based only upon the genes that we carry within us, and that our lives are essentially meaningless. Naturally religious people recoil in horror as such a bleak view of human existence. In this book Dr. Frost argues that all the World's Religions advocate for the existence of a transcendent consciousness. Scientific studies can in no way prove or disprove the existence of this consciousness.

FROM SOWING ATHEISM: “I want to put on the table, not why 85% of the members of the National Academy of Sciences reject God, I want to know why 15% of the National Academy don’t . . . How come this number isn’t zero?” NAS Spokesman Neil deGrasse Tyson, p. 14 “The evo-atheists of the NAS cannot produce any actual evidence for the origin of life, for the emergence of the sexes, or for the evolution of one distinct kind of organism into another.” p. 16 To conceal the lack of evidence for its evo-atheism (evolutionist-atheism), the NAS resorts to repetitive false affirmations, disguised tautologies, authoritative obfuscations, baiting and switching, and smearing apostate Christian lipstick on its atheist pig—all in order to mislead and manipulate its audience. (From a press release) “The evo-atheists of the NAS attempt to disguise their true motives, but the very words and phrases they use in their book expose and defeat their own abominable purpose. They try to hide their atheism, but their associates betray them. They try to hide their lack of evidence, but their own language gives them away. They try to destroy creationism, but it emerges stronger than ever. They try to misrepresent Bible-believing Christians, but their scheme backfires. They try to use enchantment to overcome their lack of truth, but it winds up ensnaring them instead.” p. 17 “Are your kids hungry for information on the origins and purpose of humanity? Do they wonder how they got here? Fix them another bowl of evo-atheism. That’s all that’s left on the shelf.” p. 22 “Science is no longer the systematic, unbiased examination of nature. It has become the interpretation of nature through the gray lens of atheism, and the tainting of all natural phenomena with that gray stain.” p. 23 “The hierarchy of the NAS has stolen true science; they are sacrificing our children to their atheism, and at the same time, destroying our children’s faith in God.” p. 27 THE WASHINGTON POST FALSIFIES EVIDENCE FOR EVOLUTION, p. 31 A FALSE PROMISE, A TABOO, AND A THREAT KEEP THE EVO-ATHEISTS IN LINE, pp. 72-77 “You most likely had never heard of Dobzhansky or Ayala before reading this book, and yet your children must go along with their bogus philosophical presumptions or fail in science class.” p. 79 “The members of the NAS hierarchy are unable to comprehend the enormous difference between saying something is true, and proving that it is true. While such a handicap has no bearing upon their respective abilities to philosophize, it categorically disqualifies them as competent scientists.” p. 80 BY ITS OWN DEFINITION OF RELIGIOUS BELIEF, THE NAS DEMONSTRATES THAT ITS EVO-ATHEISM IS JUST THAT—RELIGIOUS BELIEF, pp. 84-85 NATURAL SELECTION, THE KEY PRINCIPLE IN EVO-ATHEISM, TURNS OUT TO BE A MYSTICAL, MIRACULOUS, AND SUPERNATURAL FIGURE OF SPEECH. p. 86 THE EVO-ATHEISTS OF THE NAS ADMIT THE REALITY OF THEIR RELIGION. p. 88 “The hysterical rantings of the NAS propagandist Paul Henle blame the decline of science education in America on the ‘unwarranted’ criticism of evo-atheism. The leaders of the NAS, with their outright contempt for free speech and free thought in the science classroom, are the true villains.” p. 108

The Devil S Delusion written by David Berlinski and has been published by Three Rivers Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-06-16 with categories.

Militant atheism is on the rise. Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Daniel Dennett, and Christopher Hitchens have dominated bestseller lists with books denigrating religious belief as dangerous foolishness. And these authors are merely the leading edge of a far larger movement–one that now includes much of the scientific community. “The attack on traditional religious thought,” writes David Berlinski inThe Devil’s Delusion, “marks the consolidation in our time of science as the single system of belief in which rational men and women might place their faith, and if not their faith, then certainly their devotion.” A secular Jew, Berlinski nonetheless delivers a biting defense of religious thought. An acclaimed author who has spent his career writing about mathematics and the sciences, he turns the scientific community’s cherished skepticism back on itself, daring to ask and answer some rather embarrassing questions: Has anyone provided a proof of God’s inexistence? Not even close. Has quantum cosmology explained the emergence of the universe or why it is here? Not even close. Have the sciences explained why our universe seems to be fine-tuned to allow for the existence of life? Not even close. Are physicists and biologists willing to believe in anything so long as it is not religious thought? Close enough. Has rationalism in moral thought provided us with an understanding of what is good, what is right, and what is moral? Not close enough. Has secularism in the terrible twentieth century been a force for good? Not even close to being close. Is there a narrow and oppressive orthodoxy of thought and opinion within the sciences? Close enough. Does anything in the sciences or in their philosophy justify the claim that religious belief is irrational? Not even ballpark. Is scientific atheism a frivolous exercise in intellectual contempt? Dead on. Berlinski does not dismiss the achievements of western science. The great physical theories, he observes, are among the treasures of the human race. But they do nothing to answer the questions that religion asks, and they fail to offer a coherent description of the cosmos or the methods by which it might be investigated. This brilliant, incisive, and funny book explores the limits of science and the pretensions of those who insist it can be–indeed must be–the ultimate touchstone for understanding our world and ourselves. Creationism written by Graham Richards and has been published by Lindsey Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-04 with Religion categories.

A resurgence of fundamentalist religious thinking on both sides of the Atlantic is creating demands for the anti-evolutionist, Bible-based doctrine of Creationism and the less doctrinaire but equally unprovable concept of 'Intelligent Design' (ID) to be taught in the school science curriculum as genuine alternatives to the theory of evolution. The two sides seem to be intractable: Creationists are impervious to scientific reasoning, and scientists rely on attacking them in sterile, materialist terms. While presenting the scientific case against Creationism and ID, Graham Richards argues that these beliefs contain a number of deep conceptual contradictions which their scientific critics have failed to discern. He also finds the physical-science camp guilty of an arrogant and patronizing contempt for religion in general. This book aspires to widen the debate, encouraging both sides to re-appraise their own positions.
