En este segundo volumen de las Actas del VI Congreso Internacional de Historia de la Cultura Escrita (Alcalá de Henares, 2001) aparecen recogidos los trabajos presentados a tres de las secciones propuestas. La primera de ellas, Libros y documentos en la Alta Edad Media, tuvo como fin volver sobre dicha época histórica, dado su paulatino abandono por parte de los investigadores, desde la óptica de la historia de la escritura y de lo escrito. En este sentido, se planteó el estudio de los libros, considerados como productos de lujo, de uso cotidiano, litúrgico o religioso; así como su conservación y transmisión. Junto a ella, la sección dedicada a los Libros de derecho, entendidos como aquellos sobre los cuales el jurista trabaja (notas, protocolo, manuales, boletines oficiales, códices, memorias de trabajo, etc...), define uno de los objetivos que estructuró el Congreso desde sus inicios: el del estudio de la producción, difusión y recepción del producto escrito. Por último, la inclusión de la sección Los archivos familiares, permite abordar los temas de localización documental, el análisis archivístico y la creación de instituciones y procedimientos para la preservación de la memoria escrita.
