How To Use This Book Special sounds are tricky for most parents because chances are, they did not use "special sounds" when they were learning how to read. For that reason, this quick reference book will help parents that are using special sounds in their children's curriculum. This book has put the special sounds in alphabetical order so parents can easily look up special sounds within a word. For example, if the assignment is to circle the special sounds in the word glare, "gl" and "are" should be circled. If you are unsure if "gl" is a special sound, simply turn to the g's and look for "gl". You will find "gl" with many examples of how it is pronounced in a word. The same is true for looking up "are." With repeated use, you will soon start to remember what is a special sound and what is not. When you do start to remember, you can help your child sound out words by referring to another word with the same sound. Happy reading!
