Men who do "women's work" have consistently been the butt of jokes, derided for their lack of drive and masculinity. In this eye-opening study, Christine Williams provides a wholly new look at men who work in predominantly female jobs. Having conducted extensive interviews in four cities, Williams uncovers how men in four occupations—nursing, elementary school teaching, librarianship, and social work—think about themselves and experience their work. Contrary to popular imagery, men in traditionally female occupations do not define themselves differently from men in more traditional occupations. Williams finds that most embrace conventional, masculine values. Her findings about how these men fare in their jobs are also counterintuitive. Rather than being surpassed by the larger number of women around them, these men experience the "glass escalator effect," rising in disproportionate numbers to administrative jobs at the top of their professions. Williams finds that a complex interplay between gendered expectations embedded in organizations, and the socially determined ideas workers bring to their jobs, contribute to mens' advantages in these occupations. Using a feminist psychoanalytic perspective, Williams calls for more men not only to cross over to women's occupations, but also to develop alternative masculinities that find common ground with traditionally female norms of cooperation and caring. Until the workplace is sexually integrated and masculine and feminine norms equally valued, it will unfortunately remain "still a man's world." J wrote this book, Im Still a Young Man several years ago. It laid on the shelf for quite some time. Then one day I had a bad incident happen to me. I passed out and had to have a defibralator on my chest to revive me. God gave me more time to do what He wanted me to do. He gave me inspiration to live. I realized that perhaps my book that had lain on the shelf for so long could be a tool for young men to know that while everyone may not be successful in all things they do, they should not result to violent crimes, early suicide, teenage pregnancy and any other horrible criminal acts. We should excise determination in finding a path to our goals. In addition to that, we should excise lifting each other up in love. When you give up your life or take someone elses life, you get zero in life. We cant keep losing our young men. Read this book and see that everyone has obstacles in their life. In 2008, President Barack Obama gave a speech in Chicago, Illinois declaring that black men in America have abandoned the responsibility of fatherhood. At that moment I became inspired to write in response to the speech on the behalf of black fathers in this country. The more I researched and wrote I came to the conclusion that this is an American problem not an African-American issue. The details in this book are written in the form of an autobiography and memoir of my life. But in particular chapters I take the opportunity to offer a contributed solution to the baby daddy and baby mamma drama, discrimination, and homosexual relationships. I feel that if Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman had an applicable understanding of the contributed solution which is in the form of an equation in this book. The event at the night of the Trayvon murder would have not taken place and both individuals could have walked away in peace. In addition to the documentation and story in this book I have also included my three rap albums in which I have recorded throughout my life over the course of 10 years. Each album represents different stages of my life. The most current album is "The Resurrection" which is not completed as of August 2013 but will be available for download soon. I want to capture the emotion of my experiences as I am inspired and be able to share the recordings with my fans as soon as I am done. However, this brings a new excitement to the rap industry because I have a book that enables readers to download rap music at any given time. So all in reality my fans and supporters can take this journey of recording with me. So I offer my story, wisdom, and music.
