È anche per merito del suo linguaggio romantico e allo stesso tempo realistico che personaggi come Mowgli, Kim, Rikki-Tikki-Tavi rimarranno per sempre impressi nel nostro immaginario collettivo. Rudyard J. Kipling Joseph Rudyard Kipling nacque a Bombay nel 1865. Fu ricondotto in Inghilterra per studiare: da questo periodo terribile della sua vita uscì minato nella salute, piegato nel corpo e nello spirito. Tornato in India nel 1882, divenne redattore della «Civil and Military Gazette» e cominciò a pubblicare liriche e racconti. Ben presto divenne lo scrittore più amato e popolare del suo tempo, oltre che il meglio pagato. Nel 1889 tornò in Inghilterra, e nel 1907 gli venne conferito il premio Nobel per la Letteratura. Morì nel 1936.
