Enforcing Privacy written by David Wright and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-04-19 with Law categories.

This book is about enforcing privacy and data protection. It demonstrates different approaches – regulatory, legal and technological – to enforcing privacy. If regulators do not enforce laws or regulations or codes or do not have the resources, political support or wherewithal to enforce them, they effectively eviscerate and make meaningless such laws or regulations or codes, no matter how laudable or well-intentioned. In some cases, however, the mere existence of such laws or regulations, combined with a credible threat to invoke them, is sufficient for regulatory purposes. But the threat has to be credible. As some of the authors in this book make clear – it is a theme that runs throughout this book – “carrots” and “soft law” need to be backed up by “sticks” and “hard law”. The authors of this book view privacy enforcement as an activity that goes beyond regulatory enforcement, however. In some sense, enforcing privacy is a task that befalls to all of us. Privacy advocates and members of the public can play an important role in combatting the continuing intrusions upon privacy by governments, intelligence agencies and big companies. Contributors to this book - including regulators, privacy advocates, academics, SMEs, a Member of the European Parliament, lawyers and a technology researcher – share their views in the one and only book on Enforcing Privacy.

Boron Hydrides written by William N. Lipscomb and has been published by Courier Corporation this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-05-13 with Science categories.

In this classic monograph, Nobel Prize–winning chemist William N. Lipscomb elucidates his area of expertise: the general structural principles and reactions of boron hydrides and related compounds. Lipscomb's work appeared only a decade after the structures of boron hydrides were first elucidated and their chemistry formulated into a widely applicable framework. His observations led to a major reconsideration of how atoms bond to form stable molecules. A concise treatment of the many separate parts of the structural theory and its relation to chemistry, this volume begins with an overview of boron hydrides and related structures, progressing to three-center bonds and their applications, molecular orbitals, nuclear magnetic resonance studies of boron hydrides and related compounds, and reactions of the boron hydrides. More than 120 diagrams and figures illustrate a variety of structures.

Principles Of Fluorescence Spectroscopy written by Joseph R. Lakowicz and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-11-11 with Science categories.

Fluorescence methods are being used increasingly in biochemical, medical, and chemical research. This is because of the inherent sensitivity of this technique. and the favorable time scale of the phenomenon of fluorescence. 8 Fluorescence emission occurs about 10- sec (10 nsec) after light absorp tion. During this period of time a wide range of molecular processes can occur, and these can effect the spectral characteristics of the fluorescent compound. This combination of sensitivity and a favorable time scale allows fluorescence methods to be generally useful for studies of proteins and membranes and their interactions with other macromolecules. This book describes the fundamental aspects of fluorescence. and the biochemical applications of this methodology. Each chapter starts with the -theoreticalbasis of each phenomenon of fluorescence, followed by examples which illustrate the use of the phenomenon in the study of biochemical problems. The book contains numerous figures. It is felt that such graphical presentations contribute to pleasurable reading and increased understand ing. Separate chapters are devoted to fluorescence polarization, lifetimes, quenching, energy transfer, solvent effects, and excited state reactions. To enhance the usefulness of this work as a textbook, problems are included which illustrate the concepts described in each chapter. Furthermore, a separate chapter is devoted to the instrumentation used in fluorescence spectroscopy. This chapter will be especially valuable for those perform ing or contemplating fluorescence measurements. Such measurements are easily compromised by failure to consider a number of simple principles.

Our understanding of elementary processes in plasmas has been increasing dramatically over the last few years. The development of various swarm techniques, such as the temperature variable selected ion flow tube or the selected ion flow drift tube, has provided the prerequisite for detailed investigations into ion molecule reactions both in binary and three body collisions, and the mechanisms of many reactions are now understood quite satisfactorily. This information could not have been obtained without a detailed knowledge of the transport phenomena involved. Some of these, such as the internal-energy distribution of drifting ions, have only very recently been tackled both theoretically and experimentally; a consistent model is now being developed. As the interactions between the various branches of swarm research have become more and more intense, the most obvious thing to do was putting together a review on the present state of this subject, which is the aim of this book.

Electron Impact Ionization written by T.D. Märk and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-06-29 with Science categories.

It is perhaps surprising that a process which was one of the first to be studied on an atomic scale, and a process which first received attention over seven decades ago, continues to be the object of diverse and intense research efforts. Such is the case with the (seemingly) conceptually simple and familiar mechanism of electron impact ionization of atoms, molecules, and ions. Not only has the multi-body nature of the collision given ground to theoretical effort only grudgingly, but also the variety and subtlety of processes contributing to ionization have helped insure that progress has come only with commensurate work: no pain - no gain. Modern experimental methods have made it possible to effectively measure and explore threshold laws, differential cross sections, partial cross sections, inner-shell ionization, and the ionization of unstable species such as radicals and ions. In most instances the availability of experimental data has provided impetus and guidance for further theoretical progress.
