El mundo cristiano de habla hispana, aunque sin llegar a disfrutar de la amplia oferta del mercado anglosajón, ha tenido la suerte de contar, a lo largo de los últimos años, con excelentes traducciones de algunas de las mejores obras de Teología Sistemática publicadas en inglés: la de Charles Hodge (CLIE), la de Louis Berkhof (Libros Desafío) y la de Stanley M. Horton (VIDA) entre otras. Todas ellas provienen, sin embargo, de un contexto cultural ajeno, lo que ha motivado a que algunos afirmaran que los cristianos evangélicos latinoamericanos dependían, también en lo teológico, de los Estados Unidos, como meros centros de distribución de una teología traducida del inglés y empacada en una cultura que no era propia. Raúl Zaldívar deshace este estigma con la aportación de la primera Teología Sistemática escrita por un latinoamericano, desde una perspectiva latinoamericana, y con un enfoque latinoamericano. En ella, no tan sólo analiza con amplitud la historia del pensamiento teológico latinoamericano, sino que plantea además una orientación latinoamericana para cada uno de los múltiples apartados de la teología; Teología Propia, Antropología, Hamarteología, Soteriología, Eclesiología, Escatología, Cristología, o Pneumatología, abordando, inter alia, en un análisis en el contexto de la revelación divina, temas tan candentes en latinoamérica como el de la deuda externa, la corrupción, los problemas de violencia, el ajuste estructural económico. Su propósito está en establecer un puente entre la realidad latinoamericana y el texto bíblico, para hacer más viva y eficaz la Palabra de Dios. En lo que respecta a temas doctrinales en particular, no adopta un enfoque denominacional, antes bien, haciéndose eco del pluralismo teológico y litúrgico distintivamente evangélico, presenta el punto de vista de las diferentes Iglesias. Una obra totalmente novedosa, tan importante en su temática como elaborada en su contenido. Útil no tan solo como libro de texto de teología sino también como base para cursos de introducción al pensamiento cristiano.
