Censorship in Polish Art After 1989 is a pioneering work on censorship in Polish art after the fall of the USSR available in English for the first time with a skilled translation by Lukasz Mojsak. Polish Art Historian Jakub Dabrowski, with contributions from Anna Demenko, offers the first comprehensive study to analyze the problems of restricting the freedom of artistic expression in the Third Polish Republic. The book includes two complementary approaches - legal and historical (including political and social aspects of the phenomenon). Based on the collected factographic material, Dabrowski captures the characteristic qualitative and quantitative characteristics of the phenomenon studied in time. He enters his considerations in a wider social, political, artistic and media context, at the same time pointing to symbolic breakthroughs, precedents, sequences or correlations of events.

The Low Countries are generally considered to be the land of painting. Consequently, sculpture, especially that of the 16th century, has been insufficiently explored. In Moving Sculptures Aleksandra Lipińska presents a little-known chapter of the history of Netherlandish sculpture: the serial production of small-scale alabaster reliefs, altarpieces and statuettes in the workshops of Mechelen and Antwerp between c. 1525 and 1650. She gives the reader an insight into the rules of this craft, the specificity of the material, and the marketing methods employed. But the innovative element of this study lies in the fact that Lipińska analyses the phenomenon from the perspective of its distant recipients in Central and Northern Europe on the basis of works largely unknown to the broader public. Książka stanowi próbę monograficznego ujęcia problemu recepcji siedemnastowiecznego malarstwa holenderskiego w polskiej literaturze powojennej. O skali powziętego przez autorkę zadania świadczy to, że przedmiotem jej badań są nie tylko siedemnastowieczne obrazy holenderskie i, odnoszące się do nich, polskie utwory literackie, ale również teksty dziewiętnastowiecznych pisarzy i krytyków (najczęściej francuskich), które ukształtowały tak zwany mit Holandii złotego wieku. Autorka zaznajamia czytelnika z historycznie uwarunkowanymi, zmieniającymi się modelami percepcji siedemnastowiecznego malarstwa holenderskiego. Oryginalnym osiągnięciem jest wypracowany przez badaczkę klucz genologiczny, będący konsekwencją historycznoliterackiej tezy na temat zapośredniczenia polskiej dziewiętnastowiecznej recepcji malarstwa holenderskiego złotego wieku z zachodnioeuropejskiej dziewiętnastowiecznej literaturze i krytyce artystycznej. Okazuje się, że pisarze, tacy jak Czapski, Herling-Grudziński, Miłosz, Herbert, Zagajewski, Wencel – by wymienić tylko niektórych bohaterów książki – podobnie jak niegdyś Fromentin, Thoré, Balzac, postrzegają pejzaże, sceny rodzajowe, martwe natury i portrety (w tym także portrety zbiorowe i autoportrety) jako gatunki „typowo holenderskie”; poddają rewizji pojęcia, takie jak realizm i rodzajowość, o Varmeerowskim Widoku Delft nie potrafią mówić bez odniesienia do Proustowskiego petit pan de mur jaune, martwe natury „czytają” poprzez Chardina i Cézanne’a czy wskrzeszają mit Rembrandta-autoportrecisty, dokonującego analizy własnego „ja”. Na uwagę zasługuje również rozbudowana, szczegółowa analiza nie ukończonego zbioru esejów Herberta o małych mistrzach holenderskich – Willemie Duysterze, Pieterze de Hoochu, Hendricku Avercampie, Herculesie Segersie i Pieterze Saenredamie. Autorka tropi niezlokalizowane przez Herberta cytaty, odkrywa źródła jego nawiązań, docierając do opracowań i katalogów, z których pisarz korzystał, przygotowując tom Mali mistrzowie. Jednak opracowane badania mają nie tylko dokumentalistyczny charakter, autorka stawia bowiem tezę na temat Herbertowego projektu małej , „skrajnie subiektywnej” historii sztuki, a także przybliża czytelnikowi mniej znanych w Polsce malarzy, których artystyczna ranga domaga się – co Herbert wielokrotnie podkreślał – docenienia.
