Durante cuatro décadas y algo más de un lustro, Eli de Gortari se ha dedicado a estudiar la lógica, a enseñarla en muchas escuelas e instituciones, a tratar de desarrollarla y profundizarla, a discutirla por doquier, a participar en reuniones especializadas entre filósofos, científicos, literarios y otros artistas.Como resultados de esos empeños y actividades ha escrito, y publicado 18 libros y un buen número de artículos y folletos. Ahora, como culminación de esos esfuerzos nos entrega este Diccionario, que es obra magna en la materia cultivada en tanto tiempo. En la presente obra se ha logrado reunir el considerable número de 6,830 artículos correspondientes a conceptos, términos, locuciones, operaciones, símbolos y fórmulas que han ido integrando a la lógica desde los escritos más antiguos hasta nuestro días, representando a las distintas doctrinas que viven al caso. En cada definición explicita, el autor ha procurado cumplir con rigor las exigencias lógicas. Sin embargo, no ha tratado de redactar un curso de lógica, ni tampoco una historia de la disciplina. En el contenido de cada articulo se ha esmerado por recoger todos los significados pertinentes, tal y como se les han atribuido en el desarrollo histórico de la lógica y su uso actual . En la redacción se ha esmerado por obtener la mayor concisión, claridad y precisión. Como se trata de un diccionario de la lógica, pero no de los lógicos, ninguno de los artículos trata sobre la vida o el pensamiento doctrinario de los contribuyentes a la lógica . Tampoco aparecen citas entre comillas, no obstante que muchas frases están reproducidas textualmente, ni tampoco se mencionan las fuentes bibliográficas de donde proceden. La Bibliografía Sumaria consta solamente de 22 obras, que fueron las utilizadas con mayor frecuencia . La explicación es muy simple. Un diccionario es necesariamente la obra menos original de cualquier autor. En el caso de que la redacción cumpliera con la meta ideal perseguida entonces, en un diccionario no quedaría incluida ninguna idea ni expresión alguna perteneciente al autor. En sentido estricto, el texto entero estaría formado por ideas ajenas y dichas exactamente con las palabras de quienes las formularon o las retocaron. Entonces, aunque no se consiga precisamente el propósito señalado, el autor del diccionario tendría que incluir en la bibliografía todas las obras que ha leído acerca de la materia, con las cuales formaría una lista larguísima, pesada y además, inútil. Lo que el autor ha intentado es hacer el dominio público de una manera conjunta, los términos más importantes de la lógica, que se hayan repartido en muchas y diversas obras . Aunque se propuso aplicar un rigor sin concesiones, se encuentra convencido de que los lectores llegaran a encontrar bastantes fallas en este sentido . También ha estado alerta para evitar los círculos viciosos que son comunes y corrientes en cualquier diccionario; pero, da por supuesto que se podrán descubrir muchísimos de ellos , tal vez para regocijo de los lectores traviesos y, también para rendir culto a las tautologías, tan propias de la lógica.

This book lays bare the ideological and political character of the positivist rationality that has been the primary theoretical underpinning of educational research in the United States. These assumptions have expressed themselves in the form and content of curriculum, classroom social relations, classroom cultural artifacts, and the experiences and beliefs of teachers and students. Have existing radical critiques provided the theoretical building blocks for a new theory of pedagogy? The author attempts to move beyond the abstract, negative characteristics of many radical critiques, which are often based on false dualisms that fail to link structure and intentionally, content and process, ideology and hegemony, etc. He also is critical of the over-determined models of socialization and the abstract celebration of subjectivity that underlies much of the false utopianism of many radical perspectives. Professor Giroux begins to lay the theoretical groundwork for developing a radical pedagogy that connects critical theory with the need for social action in the interest of individual freedom and social reconstruction.
