We're all going to die. Yet in our medically advanced, technological age, many of us see death as a distant reality--something that happens only at the end of a long life or to other people. In The End of the Christian Life, Todd Billings urges Christians to resist that view. Instead, he calls us to embrace our mortality in our daily life and faith. This is the journey of genuine discipleship, Billings says: following the crucified and resurrected Lord in a world of distraction and false hopes. Drawing on his experience as a professor and father living with incurable cancer, Billings offers a personal yet deeply theological account of the gospel's expansive hope for small, mortal creatures. Artfully weaving rich theology with powerful narrative, Billings writes for church leaders and laypeople alike. Whether we are young or old, reeling from loss or clinging to our own prosperity, this book challenges us to walk a strange but wondrous path: in the midst of joy and lament, to receive mortal limits as a gift, an opportunity to give ourselves over to the Lord of life.

Most people judge matters according to the principle of good and evil. In the Bible, however, good and evil are introduced not as distinct categories but as parts of the same category. The Bible reveals that instead of being occupied with the concept of good and evil, we should be concerned about life and death. To be in life is to live out God, and to be in death is to live out Satan. In this booklet taken from the Life-study of Romans, Witness Lee presents from Scripture the line of life, the line of death, the universal battle between God as the source of life and Satan as the source of death, and the Christian's place in this battle.

This book challenges Christians to reframe dying and death in three ways. First, Christians should acknowledge the truth about the human condition. Having done so, Christians are then free to accept lament as an important Christian practice for moving from a dependency on human hope to hope in God or divine hope. Second, with lament Christians are better able to accept death and dying in response to the "Good News" of Holy Scripture, Baptism and Eucharist. The "Good News" is "Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again"--the mystery of faith and source of Christian hope. This hope through God's grace moves Christians to love others within an eschatological community that transcends both time and place. Third, Christians transform faith communities in light of the "Good News" so that love flourishes in "daily dying" to self through beatitudinal living for others. As a result, the preparation of daily dying forms Christians to accept mortality not as the worst evil to resist in every way but rather as the final stage of a life long journey with Christ into eternal life. The book challenges Christians, both clergy and laypersons, to consider this perspective. This challenge is supported with both scriptural and theological explanations as well as practical observations for reflection from "unscientific" discussions with twenty Christians, both clergy and church member, from five different Christian traditions. +

Where will you go when you die? Has anyone ever asked you this question? Probably not. We live in a world where very few people care about what will happen to them when they die. They listen to people who just tell them what they want to hear. The truth is that there is a heaven and a hell. Heaven is the most wonderful place ever created, and hell is just the opposite. You will die one day, and you will spend forever in one of those two places. The good news is that you do not have to go to hell. This book will tell you of the only way to heaven and of the love it took to provide that path.

At the time that America became a nation, we were an approximately 98.5% Christian nation that number has astoundingly decreased as is clearly seen in the present demise of the morality of our nation! Every hour that passes without a reverse in this moral declension, brings us closer to a non-reversible judgment. The crisis is the # of lost souls that will no longer be able to become converted. The clock is running out! The compilation of this book is the byproduct of approximately fifty thousand hours of dedication and devotion in the study of God's Word combined with the study of numerous theologians and and lovers of God Word such as St. Augustine and Martin Luther. I also studied many highly respected apologists. "This Life" was written during the approximately eight years I spent behind bars both in county jails and prison, including juvenile lock-ups and group and foster homes from the age of fourteen going forward. I was already a chronic alcoholic by age fourteen. My purpose in writing this book is to show how in the last two hundred years we went from being a 98.5% Christian nation to where we are today morally! I need not quote the present percentage as the empirical evidence is crystal clear as to where America is today morally and spiritually. Sodom is the first word that comes to my mind! The demise of the morality of America as a nation is seen both spiritually and physically and in word and deeds. Only the "eyes of the Spirit" can truly see what God is doing and how close we are to an irreversible crisis, a total destruction. Even nuclear war is not out of the question! The signs around us are everywhere and are "neon!" The heart of mankind has never been so selfish, hard and cold. The bible says, "Because lawlessness has increased, most peoples' love has grown cold!" The battle between good and evil is now at a fever pitch at its peak, but people don't realize that every war has an ending! We are now seeing the "largest" hurricanes and forest fires on record! The highest drug overdoses and the highest rate of suicides on record! Morally and sexually America has gone off a cliff! People don't even blush at homosexuality and lesbianism! Gay marriage, are you kidding me!! This is such a mockery of our Holy God! My book, written with much divine inspiration, will hopefully enlighten many Christians and non-Christians alike to fulfill the great commission before it's too late! -Alan K. Christians must come alive to the realities of the gospel, through the awareness which is the Holy Spirit's gift. They must reject everything that is dead and life destroying, and in mutual interchange and joyful response awaken to the life whose source is the dynamic, living God. This is the message of the five addresses given by Bishop John Taylor during the Mission to the University of Oxford early in 1986. In his incomparably graceful and poetic style, the author of The Go-Between God presents a vision of Christian living which will speak to this and future generations. John V. Taylor was Bishop of Winchester.

From Death To Life written by Christoph Schoenborn and has been published by Ignatius Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-07-05 with Religion categories.

Bishop Schoenborn, editor of the monumental Catechism of the Catholic Church, presents profound reflections on the meaning of death, judgment and eternal life, and the Church's teachings on this eschatological dimension of our faith. Lamenting the absence today of sermons and writings on this important subject, Schoenborn meets that need by delving deeply into the Church's rich tradition of thought on life beyond death. Today, language about man's pilgrim path, about his homeland in heaven, of earthly tribulation and hope for life beyond death, has become largely a foreign language in the Christian churches. It is only seldom that a sermon dares to look out on the vista of eternal life. It seems that fear of being accused of dispensing a consolation in a life after death and of fleeing from the world has become to a large extent a self-censorship. Bishop Schoeborn says that this "eschatological amnesia" is one reason why many people no longer turn to the Church when they want information about the last things. In this book, Schoenborn shows that Jesus Christ is the focal point of the Christian vision of life on earth and life after death. Christ is the Alpha and the Omega, the one who discloses to us what "existence in transition" means.

Popular pastor Randy Frazee answers perennial questions about life after death with an accessible exploration of what the Bible has to say on the subject. In both Christian and pop culture, there is a certain fascination with the afterlife. What happens after you die? What happens if you die with Christ or without Christ? What happens when Jesus returns if you have or haven’t accepted Christ? What exactly comes next? Randy Frazee, popular pastor of Oak Hills Church and general editor of the wildly successful Believe and The Story programs, answers these questions and more. Born out of a deeply personal search for truth after the death of his mother, What Happens After You Die is a straightforward exploration of what the Bible says about life after death. From heaven and hell to the Lake of Fire and the actual presence of God, Frazee uncovers what is simply cultural tradition and what is truly biblical. He shows readers not only the death Jesus came to save us from but the life he came to save us for. Based on a teaching series that has had more online views than any other series Frazee has done to date, What Happens After You Die is a guide to the perennial questions about life and death, what comes next, and how we should live until then.

Life Beyond Death written by Thomas O'Meara and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-04-17 with categories.

The subtitle of Professor's O'Meara's book, A Traveler's Guide for Christians, is a particularly apt means to dispel a common misunderstanding of the Christian discourse about life beyond death. The theology of the "Last Things," or eschatology, is not an advance report of what will happen after death, a peek into the life beyond death to satisfy our curiosity. It is important to note that the few biblical statements on heaven and hell are not descriptions of the afterlife but prescriptions or guides on how to live this present life in a way that will make us worthy of God's gift of eternal life in communion with the Triune God, the saints, and the entire human family, in a renewed and transformed cosmos. O'Meara's volume offers precisely this all-too-necessary guide. More precisely, this guide is a roadmap, a GPS, to use a contemporary expression, for our journey toward God - A Traveler's Guide. In this sense O'Meara joins a host of Christian classics since the late Middle Ages known as ars bene moriendi - the art of dying well. Right in the first two chapters he shows us how to die well, to look at death in the eye and not resort to (useless) denials. He urges us to view death as an "entrance," not as an end. In the next three chapters, O'Meara accompanies us on our journey to God through time and life during which, by God's grace, we will be able to mature as human beings and as Christians. The last three chapters give a glimpse - but only a glimpse, not a descriptive report - into life beyond death. The pervasive tone of the book is one of joy and hope, not fear and despair. O'Meara speaks eloquently and beautifully about the "power of hope" and about "transforming light," a message so appropriate for time threatened by war and rumors of war, racism and xenophobia, and the prospect of ecological destruction.
