Modeling Marvels written by Errol G. Lewars and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-12-05 with Science categories.

The aim of this highly original book is to survey a number of chemical compounds that some chemists, theoretical and experimental, find fascinating. This is the first book to feature compounds/classes of compounds of theoretical interest that have been studied theoretically but have defied synthesis. It is hoped that this collection of idiosyncratic molecules will appeal to chemists who find the study of chemical oddities interesting and, on occasion, even rewarding.

In many branches of chemistry, Molecular Modeling is a well-established and powerful tool for the investigation of complex structures. The second completely revised and enlarged edition of this highly recognized book shows how this method can be successfully applied to inorganic and coordination compounds. The first part of the book gives a general introduction to Molecular Modeling, which will be of use for chemists in all areas. The second part discusses numerous carefully selected examples, chosen to illustrate the wide range of applicability of molecular modeling to metal complexes and the approaches being taken to dealing with some of the difficulties involved. While the general outline is similar to that of the first edition, many of the examples chosen for discussion reflect the changes of the past five years. In the third part, the reader learns how to apply Molecular Modeling to a new system and how to interpret the results. The accompanying software features 20 tutorial lessons based on examples from the literature and the book itself. The authors take special care to highlight possible pitfalls and offer advice on how to avoid them. Therefore, this book will be invaluable to everyone working in or entering the field.

The objective of this theoretical approach to understanding the structure of the nucleus was to produce a concise model for all the elements. In particular, the focus was to determine a few simple rules that would define the precise structure of every stable isotope. After several years of research and analysis, a concise model of just three rules has been achieved. This model has exact correlations with the current experimental data for all the stable isotopes.

Molecules And Models written by Arne Haaland and has been published by OUP Oxford this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-03-06 with Science categories.

This book provides a systematic description of the molecular structures and bonding in simple compounds of the main group elements with particular emphasis on bond distances, bond energies and coordination geometries. The description includes the structures of hydrogen, halogen and methyl derivatives of the elements in each group, some of these molecules are ionic, some polar covalent. The survey of molecules whose structures conform to well-established trends is followed by representative examples of molecules that do not conform. We also describe electron donor-acceptor and hydrogen bonded complexes. Chemists use models to systematize our knowledge, to memorize information and to predict the structures of compounds that have not yet been studied. The book provides a lucid discussion of a number of models such as the Lewis electron-pair bond and the VSEPR models, the spherical and polarizable ion models, and molecular orbital calculations, and it outlines the successes and failures of each.

Over the last decades, it has been hotly debated whether and how compounds, i.e. word-formations, and phrases differ from each other. The book discusses this issue by investigating compounds and phrases from a structural, semantic-functional and, crucially, cognitive perspective. The analysis focuses on compounds and phrases that are composed of either an adjective and a noun or two nouns in German, French and English. Having distinguished compounds from phrases on structural and semantic-functional grounds, the author claims that compounds are by their nature more appropriate to be stored in the mental lexicon than phrases and supports his argument with empirical evidence from new psycholinguistic studies. In sum, the book maintains the separation between compounds and phrases and reflects upon its cognitive consequences.
