In MUSES IV, 'Magic Unisons', as the title indicates, the word magic explains best those moments, when during the process of composing word sequences that gradually become verses and stanzas, and could lead to a whole cycle of compositions, like in the 'Chants of a Traveling Bard'. For love, in 'Magic Unisons', transferred into many shades of enjoyment and happy feelings, one's Muses certainly stimulate the poet with their sensual impulses: This cannot be stored like goods, but the traces of those happy moments are still embedded in the poet's soul and the souls of all people engaged in creative work. Fascinating are the times one spends looking through one's creative output of one year that usually happens at the end of it when the mood is influenced by dark ominous cloud formations, snowfall that reflects the dusky light, fine stringing rain, unexpected storms, and foggy mystical mornings. Indeed, magical unisons are unique.

AFTER HOUSES is an extended meditation on homelessness. In unflinching, raw poetry, poet Claire Millikin explores states of homelessness, and a longing for, even a devotion to, houses—houses as spaces where one could be safe and at ease. The poems move through an American landscape, between the South and the North, between childhood and adulthood, reaching toward a home that’s never reached, but always at one’s fingertips. Throughout the collection, Millikin draws from personal and family history, from classical mythology and architectural theory, to shape a poetry of empathy, in which some of the places where people get lost in America are faced and given place. AFTER HOUSES echo the voices of girls who have not quite survived, but who persist, intact in the way that Rimbaud insists on intactness, in words.

"The poems in Copia are about what is and what is almost-gone, what is in limbo and what won't give way, what is almost at rock bottom but still and always brimming with the possibility of miracle."—Rachel Zucker Erika Meitner's fourth book takes cues from the Land Artists of the 1960s who created work based on landscapes of urban peripheries and structures in various states of disintegration. The collection also includes a section of documentary poems about Detroit that were commissioned for Virginia Quarterly Review. Because it is an uninhabited place, because it makes me hollow, I pried open the pages of Detroit: the houses blanked out, factories absorbed back into ghetto palms and scrub- oak, piles of tires, heaps of cement block. Vines knock and enter through shattered drop-ceilings, glassless windows. Ragwort cracks the street's asphalt to unsolvable puzzles. Meitner also probes the hulking ruins of office buildings, tract housing, superstores, construction sites, and freeways, and doesn't shy from the interactions that occur in Walmart and supermarket parking lots. It is nearly Halloween, which means wrong sizes on Wal-Mart racks, variety bags of pumpkins extinguishing themselves on the stoop children from the trailer park trawling our identical lawns soon so we can give away nickels, light, sandpaper, raisins, cement. Erika Meitner was a 2009 National Poetry Series winner. Her work has appeared in American Poetry Review, Ploughshares, Tin House, The Best American Poetry 2011, Kenyon Review, and elsewhere. She is associate professor of English at Virginia Tech.

Honest Engine written by Kyle Dargan and has been published by University of Georgia Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015 with Poetry categories.

In this his fourth collection, award-winning poet Kyle Dargan examines the mechanics of the heart and mind as they are weathered by loss. Following a spate of deaths among family and friends, Dargan chooses to present not color-negative elegies but self-portraits that capture what of these departed figures remains within him. Amid this processing of mortality, it becomes clear that he has arrived at a turning point as a writer and a man. As the title suggests, Dargan aspires toward an unflinching honesty. These poems do not purport to possess life's answers or seek to employ language to mask what they do not know. Dargan confesses as a means of reaching out to the nomadic human soul and inviting it to accompany him on a walk toward the unknown.

Hide And Seek written by Virginia L. Blum and has been published by University of Illinois Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995 with Literary Criticism categories.

In response to widespread cultural fantasies about the child--including childhood innocence, the child as origin of the adult, the fetal emergence of subjectivity, and the "inner child" movement--Hide and Seek examines representations of the child in fiction, psychoanalysis, and popular culture. Concentrating on the "go-between" function of the child in nineteenth- and twentieth-century American and British fiction, Virginia Blum shows how selected children in the works of L. P. Hartley, Charles Dickens, Henry James, and Vladimir Nabokov were actually fictional messengers who ultimately were unsuccessful at reconciling impasses in the adult world. Throughout her book Blum draws on pop images of real and fictional children, ranging from the Baby Jessica case, in which the idea of "real" paternity and family bonds comes to the mythic fore, to the film Home Alone, in which the abandoned child becomes protector of his family's hearth and home. Hide and Seek raises provocative questions about the ways in which our culture fetishizes the idea of the child at the same time that we treat with comparative indifference the conditions under which many real children actually live. "A work of striking originality and consistent intellectual honesty, forcing us into genuinely profound and darkly uncomfortable areas of speculation." -- James R. Kincaid, author of Child-Loving: The Erotic Child and Victorian Culture

The first four books in the Helicon Muses series, bundled at a discounted price When Nora Sparrow was a little girl and Owen Asher told her she was special, she believed him. But Nora’s fifteen now, and she’s too old to believe in magical happily-ever-afters or mystical otherworlds where she can create all day long and do what she likes. Sure, there are inexplicable things about her and Owen, like that trick he can do with his eyes that bends people to his will or the fact that storm clouds gather if she ever does one creative thing, but… Special? Her? She doesn’t even want to be special. She only wants to be like everyone else. When he begs her to try another ritual to open the dimensions, she agrees mostly to humor him. Owen’s rituals never work. Except this one does, and it’s all real. She’s a muse, not a human, and this world is Helicon—a bohemian world where the muses play hard, drink hard, throw parties, and create constantly. It’s Woodstock with magic, and here everyone is like her. She finally belongs. But Owen was right after all. Half-god Owen, the son of Dionysus, the powerful and single-minded boy whose little eye trick doesn’t work on her anymore? He was right, because she is special. She’s the only one Owen is obsessed with. And he’ll do anything to have her, to keep her, anything at all. Even tear Helicon apart at the seams. The Helicon series is a soapy, irreverent portal fantasy wherein the drama of teen relationships tends to overshadow whatever magical threat they’re trying to fight. Lots of drinking, swearing, inappropriate sexual decisions, grappling with sexual orientation and gender, and random appearances by mythological figures thrown in for good measure. It’s genre-bending, impossible to categorize, and for everyone out there who equally loves Gossip Girl, Rocky Horror, and Narnia.
