Lights And Shadows Of Spiritualism written by Daniel Dunglas Home and has been published by London : Virtue & Company this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1877 with Spiritualism categories.

Daniel Dunglas Home (1833-1886) was a charismatic medium whose seances were attended by European royalty and eminent Victorians like Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Thrown out by his aunt because of the paranormal events which plagued him since childhood, Home became a 'professional house guest' and medium at the age of 17. During seances he purportedly levitated, handled hot coals and channelled the voices of the dead. This volume, first published in 1877, is an evocative examination of spiritualism which explores the history of the practice via the Greeks, the Romans, and Joan of Arc. Simultaneously attacking fraudulent mediums while celebrating 'true' spiritualist practitioners, this fascinating work details both the criticism and support received by Home and features reproductions of numerous fan letters. Although colourful and impassioned, Home's polemic is written in an amiable style and provides fascinating insights into the life and work of the self-proclaimed 'Grandfather of English Spiritualism'.

Eighty-three years ago, there was a man known as the Shadow. His hands wrought darkness, and through him, the Ending War gave rise to fear and devastation. He would have destroyed the land but for the Light, which stood in his way. And so, for nearly a century, he was imprisoned in a deep sleep. Yet the Shadow stirs once again. This is the story of two young men and the paths they take toward navigating a world in which darkness has taken root. One, the Shadow himself, called Zain; the other, a quiet boy named Nathan. While Zain must grapple with a strange inner turmoil that threatens to drive him mad, Nathan is reluctantly caught up in a great and terrible adventure. Friends are met, enemies are made, and through it all light and dark converge in an ages-old contention.

Excerpt from The Lights and Shadows of Real Life TO all, as they pass through the world, come light and shadow. Though the sun may be in the heavens, clouds Often intervene, and cast deep shadows about our footsteps. But, it is a truth which we cannot too deeply lay to heart, that, in our life, as in nature, the exhalations which form the obscuring cloud arise from below. They are not born in the pure heavens, but spring out Of the earth beneath. If there was nothing evil in the mind, there would be no cloud in the sky of our being, - all would be eternal sunshine. Children are intrigued by switches that power a light source and by items that reflect light and sparkle, and they take notice of personal shadows cast on the playground. An understanding of light and shadow is crucial to many STEM fields, including astronomy, biology, engineering, architecture, and more. This book shows teachers how to engage children (ages 3-8 ) with light and shadow in a playful way, building an early foundation for the later, more complex study of this phenomena and, ultimately, for children's interest in professions within the STEM fields. The text offers guidance for arranging the physical environment of classrooms, integrating literacy learning and investigations, and building partnerships with administrators. Each volume in the STEM for Our Youngest Learners Series includes examples of educators and children engaging in inquiry learning, guidance for selecting materials and arranging the learning environment, modifications and accommodations for diverse learners, support for establishing adult learning communities, and more.
