Contemporary social and cultural life is increasingly organised around a logic of self-transformation, where changing the body is seen as key. Transforming Images examines how the future functions within this transformative logic to indicate the potential of a materially better time. The book explores the crucial role that images have in organising an imperative for transformation and in making possible, or not, the materialisation of a better future. Coleman asks the questions: which futures are appealing and to whom? How do images tap into and reproduce wider social and cultural processes of.

The author seeks to discern the distinctive character of photography as an art, asking why similar images affect us differently and how our reaction to a photograph of a painting is different to the response to the painting. She demonstrates "perceived realism" and the transformation of images.

Transforming Images examines how the future functions within this transformative logic to indicate the potential of a materially better time. The book explores the crucial role that images have in organising an imperative for transformation and in making possible, or not, the materialisation of a better future. Coleman asks the questions: which futures are appealing and to whom? How do images tap into and reproduce wider social and cultural processes of inequality? Drawing on the recent ‘turns’ to affect and emotion and to understanding life in terms of vitality, intensity and ‘liveness’ in social and cultural theory, the book develops a framework for understanding images as felt and lived out. Analysing different screens across popular culture – the screens of shopping, makeover television programmes, online dieting plans and government health campaigns – it traces how images of self-transformation bring the future into the present and affectively ‘draw in’ some bodies more than others. Transforming Images will be of interest to students and scholars working in sociology, media studies, cultural studies and gender studies.

Computer Transformation Of Digital Images And Patterns written by Zi-Cai Li and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1989 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This book is concerned with linear and nonlinear transformations of digitized images and patterns. Transformation models include linear, quadratic, cubic, bilinear, biquadratic, bicubic, Coons model and other nonlinear forms such as harmonic, projective, and perspective transformations. Discrete techniques have been developed to realize both forward and inverse transformations. The latter can be applied to normalize distorted images and to enhance the pattern recognition process. Efficient algorithms such as the splitting-shooting methods and splitting-integrating methods have been developed and analysed in this book for the first time. Graphical examples are given and compared with existing algorithms. This book is of interest to researchers in the areas of pattern recognition, character recognition, image processing, computer vision, computer graphics and other related fields.

Philippine Folk Literature: The Riddles constitutes Volume V of the author's eight-volume Philippine Folk Literature series. This work is intended to be a national collection of Philippine riddles--a putting together of available collections of riddles from all over the country, from Batanes to Jolo. The riddles are listed, according to solution, under nineteen subject categories and one "Miscellaneous" category. Within each group, the riddles are arranged alphabetically, according to answer, or solution, in English translation. For each entry, the riddle in English translation is given first. Then under it are listed the different Philippine versions of the riddle, in georgraphical order: Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao. Every Philippine version carries with it a language label and source (collector/collection). To give the reader an idea of the richness and variety of the images of comparison used in the metaphorical riddles, the most dominant and striking of these ar listed in an index.

"An incredible archive of paintings by Northwest Coast artists, allowing the viewer to explore the creativity, energy, and depths these artists have achieved." --Robert Davidson In the two decades since its initial publication, The Transforming Image has become a must-have book for scholars and appreciators of Northwest Coast art, and, importantly, for First Nations artists, who have come to rely on its wealth of images and ideas. A new edition of this groundbreaking volume makes its invaluable findings accessible once again. Its hundreds of photos of historical Indigenous artworks--objects and belongings now widely dispersed in collections around the world--are the extraordinary result of Bill McLennan's Image Recovery Project, in which he used infrared photography to reveal images on historical Northwest Coast objects whose painted surfaces were obscured by the patina of age. The project photographed nearly a thousand objects over its two-decade run, and worked with contemporary First Nations artists to reconstruct the compositions and understand their original context and significance, which the authors discuss in their insightful and engaging commentary. These rediscovered artworks radically deepened the understanding of Northwest Coast First Nations painting, including techniques, materials, imagery, and the creativity of generations of ancestor artists. A new preface by Karen Duffek speaks to what the book has helped set in motion, and how First Nations artists and scholars today are taking this art forward in new and compelling directions.

Initial data representations, such as images, provide basic visual information about a document collection but contain no deeper relationships between elements within the images or elements within a related collection of images. Transformation of initial image data to an intermediate representation allows neural network models to encode inter-image and intra-image relationships to improve retrieval.

Visualising Business Transformation written by Jonathan Whelan and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-01-24 with Business & Economics categories.

Business transformation typically involves a wide range of visualisation techniques, from the templates and diagrams used by managers to make better strategic choices, to the experience maps used by designers to understand customer needs, the technical models used by architects to propose possible solutions, and the pictorial representations used by change managers to engage stakeholder groups in dialogue. Up until now these approaches have always been dealt with in isolation, in the literature as well as in practice. This is surprising, because although they can look very different, and tend to be produced by distinct groups of people, they are all modelling different aspects of the same thing. Visualising Business Transformation draws them together for the first time into a coherent whole, so that readers from any background can expand their repertoire and understand the context and rationale for each technique across the transformation lifecycle. The book will appeal to a broad spectrum of readers involved in change, whether that is by creating change models themselves (strategists, architects, designers, engineers, business analysts, developers, illustrators, graphic facilitators, etc.), interpreting and using them (sponsors, business change managers, portfolio/programme/project managers, communicators, change champions, etc.), or supporting those involved in change indirectly (trainers, coaches, mentors, higher education establishments and professional training facilities).
