El tema abarca en particular las últimas décadas de la transición a la democracia en el Uruguay. Tengo como objetivo analizar el desarrollo democrático en el país latinoamericano para constatar si la transición se ha efectuado completamente. El texto siguiente se compone de diferentes partes. En primer lugar me ocuparé de la historia del Uruguay en el siglo XX, de la política, la dictadura, la economía y la sociedad en el país latinoamericano para dar una imagen de la situación histórica. Después hablaré sobre los diferentes presidentes del Uruguay en el último siglo después de la dictadura militar: Julio María Sanguinetti Coirolo, Luis Alberto Lacalle de Herrera y Jorge Batlle Ibánez. Voy a investigar hasta qué punto ellos han contribuído a la democratización del Uruguay. Me refiero también a la cuestión de los desaparecidos durante la dictadura y a la posición de los presidentes frente a ese tema. Entonces presentaré al famoso escritor uruguayo Mario Benedetti y su punto de vista del Uruguay democrático. De esta manera consideraré la transición también de la perspectiva de un exiliado intelectual. Por último voy a resumir los resultados de ese trabajo en la conclusión.
