Demain l'emploi sera fragmenté, individualisé, à la carte. La relation de subordination sera remplacée par une relation de collaboration, dans laquelle la maîtrise et l'aménagement des tâches par les salariés eux-mêmes seront déterminants. Ce livre n'est pas une charge contre notre modèle social. Il constate que celui-ci n'apporte plus les protections nécessaires aux salariés, faute d'avoir anticipé et de s'être adapté à la révolution individualiste. Il ne s'agit donc pas pour l'auteur de s'associer au discours patronal courant contre la protection sociale et le droit du travail. Il s'agit au contraire de refonder ceux-ci sur un constat documenté de la nouvelle réalité du travail. Face à la montée de l'individualisme, de nouvelles formes de sécurité vont devoir être inventées afin de réconcilier l'individu et le collectif, et de combiner flexibilité et sécurité. Pour au final replacer l'individu au coeur de la relation d'emploi.
