This study brings together reliable and consistent data on the mining sector. It analyzes tin mining activities over the past eighty years, and includes production and price data. It provides details about the rising significance of tin mining in Bolivia, the events leading to the nationalization of the large mines in 1952, and an assessment of the performance of tin mining in the country. An attempt is made to quantify the effect of tin mining on the Bolivian economy. More specifically, the change in the level of domestic aggregate demand resulting from a change in tin output and a change in the international price of tin is measured. There is also some discussion of the fiscal impact of tin revenues and the backward and forward linkages resulting from mining activities. The report contains an analysis of the main factors, economic and institutional, that determine the price of tin. It also includes an assessment of the competitiveness of the various countries and mining methods using data for four benchmark years from 1971 to 1981.

Juan De La Rosa written by Nataniel Aguirre and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999-04-29 with Fiction categories.

Long considered a classic in Bolivia, Juan de la Rosa tells the story of a young boy's coming of age during the violent and tumultuous years of Bolivia's struggle for independence. Indeed, in this remarkable novel, Juan's search for his personal identity functions as an allegory of Bolivia's search for its identity as a nation. Set in the early 1800s, the novel is narrated by one of the last surviving Bolivian rebels, octogenarian Juan de la Rosa. Juan recreates his childhood in the rebellious town of Cochabamba, and with it a large cast of full bodied, Dickensian characters both heroic and malevolent. The larger cultural dislocations brought about by Bolivia's political upheaval are echoed in those experienced by Juan, whose mother's untimely death sets off a chain of unpredictable events that propel him into the fiery crucible of the South American Independence Movement. Outraged by Juan's outspokenness against Spanish rule and his awakening political consciousness, his loyalist guardians banish him to the countryside, where he witnesses firsthand the Spaniards' violent repression and rebels' valiant resistance that crystallize both his personal destiny and that of his country. In Sergio Gabriel Waisman's fluid translation, English readers have access to Juan de la Rosa for the very first time.

The Atlantis Trail continues on from 'Atlantis: the Andes Solution' with the author's further four expeditions to the Altiplano, visiting four volcanoes with similar features to those described by Plato, the mysterious petrified city of Pumiri on the edge of the level plain near the lake and the village of the ancient Uru/Chipaya peoples in the middle of the great salt desert. The author finally visits the location Plato gave and finds a site next to the sea previously an island with circular zones of land and sea destroyed by earthquakes and floods exactly as Plato's described Atlantis. Furthermore this site is also home to the Aymara God of the Sea called “Tunupa” - the local equivalent of Poseidon who "broke the ground off all round about to make it impregnable to man" and a Bolivian legend called “The Legend of the Desaguadero” tells of a city punished by the gods and sunk into the sea - the origin of Plato's story of Atlantis.
