We first meet Jason Auster when he climbs out of a stagecoach in a New England maritime town and, as it were, salutes destiny. A twenty-year-old house carpenter who has come adventuring,øJason hopes to ?put in practice certain theories concerning the rights of men and property which had already made him a pest at home.? And, indeed, theory and practice, destiny and self-determination are all following quite different paths as this antebellum story of love and power, incest and family honor, and sexual bonds and intractable conflicts between races and classes plays out against the backdrop of a nation?and a world?divided. ø First published in 1865, this novel tracks the fortunes of Jason and his unlikely bride, the aristocratic Sarah Parke, along with the children and wards, the lost loves and secret passions that define and forever alter an entire family and everyone who touches it. Uniquely located within the romantic, realist, and regional traditions, this oddly unsentimental tale illuminates the racial, sexual, and political conventions and conflicts of its time even as it offers an unusual and compelling perspective on the historical moment it reflects.

The purpose of this book is to set forth the gospel of grace--the good news concerning Christ and Him crucified--and that alone. It is sent forth with the prayer that through the reading of these pages many will be led out of darkness into the glorious light of God's love, and that the Lord's people will be further equipped to render unto Him effectual service, having a more thorough working knowledge of the gospel of grace, so important in true Christian testimony--all in all that our blessed Redeemer and Lord may be glorified! --from the Preface

This amazing story of bloody guerilla warfare along the Kentucky-Tennessee border presents a tale and a protagonist unique in the annals of the Civil War. When the Civil War began in 1861, the men of the Cumberland Mountain districts chose sides and pursued a private war with each other. The most infamous of their number was Champ Ferguson. In this classic study, Thurman Sensing provides the only available book-length account of Ferguson's brutal deeds, his capture, his trial, his execution at the end of the war, and the legendary ruse by which he allegedly escaped hanging. Long regarded as a collector's item by Civil War buffs, the reappearance of this book in a paperback edition will be welcomed by many.

A provocative account of the development of modern national culture in India using classical music as a case study. Janaki Bakhle demonstrates how the emergence of an "Indian" cultural tradition reflected colonial and exclusionary practices, particularly the exclusion of Muslims by the Brahmanic elite, which occurred despite the fact that Muslims were the major practiti oners of the Indian music that was installed as a "Hindu" national tradition. This book lays bare how a nation's imaginings--from politics to culture--reflect rather than transform societal divisions.

What roles do King Nebuchadnezzar, ruler of ancient Babylon, and Donald J. Trump, 45th president of the United States, play in God furthering His kingdom? In Two Men from Babylon, Wallace Henley brings into perspective how God uses unlikely leaders to bring about His plans and purpose. Here is a masterfully constructed book that tears the camouflage off our times and looks intensely at what is going on in our crazy era on the eve of a year of destiny—and perhaps for civilization itself. Here you will: Consider the possibility that God made Donald Trump president Learn where the “age of Trump” might fit into history Get a feel for the "White House Mystique” Sense the spiritual atmosphere of the Oval Office Discover the strategic role of the church related to politics Understand why places of great power are vulnerable to demonic attack . . . and much more The heart of this book is found in two Scripture passages, “It is God who changes the times and the epochs; He removes kings and establishes kings” (Daniel 2:21); and “This Gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations and then the end will come” (Matthew 24:14). Two Men from Babylon summarizes the truth of these verses in revealing that God has grand purposes for time and history; there are manifestations of the kingdom that appear throughout finite time and history; the church is the primary agent for the expansion of this kingdom; nations are of strategic importance in the fulfillment of God’s plan; and it is God who establishes and removes the leaders of those nations. Thus, the Lord of History is the focus of this book, but Nebuchadnezzar and Donald Trump play an essential role in His story.

A clandestine arrangement has been struck for a single chance to heal a war-torn nation. The mission is to bring the greatest prize in the world back to American soil-remnants of pre-history's greatest ship and most startling mystery. The prize may lie on a mountain top inside the fierce Ottoman Empire, yet the men who seek it are only days away from trying to kill one another. It will be up to the newly-installed Director of Security at Department 5656, Major Jack Collins and his team of brilliant men and women, to rescue the archeological expedition from forces that will kill to keep the mysterious artifacts inside the territorial borders of Turkey. Publishing public domain and PLR books is a numbers racket to some degree. It will depend on the niche and the earlier recognition of that author and work. The quality on these vary intensely. Some of the more recent ones are better written and edited. Now they are coming with high-quality covers and source files to edit them fully. Like public domain, there are essentially limitless competition out there with all these copies. But also like public domain, you will see that mostly they have been poorly edited or poorly marketed and are really no competition at all. In East Asian tradition, an anthology was a recognised form of compilation of a given poetic form. In this model, which derives from Chinese tradition, the object of compiling an anthology was to preserve the best of a form, and cull the rest.
