Bajo la égida de un título paradójico pero concebido por el mismo autor, «la ciudad tranquila» del campo de concentración se convierte aquí en el objeto de miradas e interpretaciones de lo más dispares: la fantástica, por ejemplo, en el tríptico de relatos distópicos constituido por «Mariposa angelical», «Versamina» y «La bella durmiente en la nevera»; o, por supuesto, la autobiográfica, con textos como «Cerio» o «Vanadio», en el que Levi habla del reencuentro, veinte años después, con uno de sus carceleros. Pasados treinta y cinco años de la muerte de Primo Levi, quizá el más lúcido testigo de la barbarie de los campos de concentración nazi, esta antología reincide en la importancia de mantener vivo el recuerdo del horror, y abre, gracias al delicado equilibro entre ficción y memoria, un nuevo espacio de reflexión.
