Translated by Charles Leland; Introduction by Phillip Lopate The Italian Journey contains celebrated examples of Heine's wit, combining street scenes and art masterpieces with scathing attacks against religious bigotry and reactionary politics. The Baths of Lucca intertwines irony and the expression of romantic sentiments to capture the restlessness that heralded the birth of the modern world. Freud included some of Heine's anecdotes in his own writings on honor and its relation to the unconscious.

The Tarot Handbook written by Angeles Arrien and has been published by Penguin this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1997-10-13 with Body, Mind & Spirit categories.

In this updated edition of The Tarot Handbook, now with a new introduction by the author, Angeles Arrien takes tarot beyond the limits of the fortune-telling realm and shows us how this time-honored application is both a visual and symbolic map of consciousness, and a source of ancient wisdom. An exciting handbook for either a beginning or an ardent student of the tarot, it contains a multitude of charts, spreads, illustrations of the Thoth Deck, and other methodology tools for anyone looking for insights into personal and spiritual development. An anthropologist who specializes in cross-cultural myths, Arrien demonstrates how the seventy-eight figures of the tarot are portraitures and archetypes that are prevalent in the collective human experience. The author teaches us to use this realization to look beyond our cultural viewpoint or bias when we approach the tarot, and to rely instead on these more important universal principles, thereby deepening the quality and accuracy of our interpretations and expanding our awareness of the human psyche. A significant and classic piece of tarot literature, The Tarot Handbook is both a required manual for teachers and students of the subject, and an accessible and fascinating exploration of cultural anthropology.

Social Meanings Of Suicide written by Jack D. Douglas and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-03-08 with Social Science categories.

This book presents a review and criticism of all sociological literature on suicide, from Emile Durkheim's influential Suicide (1897) to contemporary writings by sociologists who have patterned their own work on Durkheim's. Douglas points out fundamental weaknesses in the structural-functional study of suicide, and offers an alternative theoretical approach. He demonstrates the unreliability of official statistics on suicide and contends that Durkheim's explanations of suicide rates in terms of abstract social meanings are founded on an inadequate and misleading statistical base. The study of suicidal actions, Douglas argues, requires an examination of the individual's own construction of his actions. He analyzes revenge, escape, and sympathy motives; using diaries, notes, and observers' reports, he shows how the social meanings of actual cases should be studied. Originally published in 1967. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. Martin Salander written by Gottfried Keller and has been published by Livraria Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on with Philosophy categories.
