Der Roman Ein Kind unserer Zeit, der im Sommer 1938 im Amsterdamer Exil-Verlag Allert de Lange erschienen ist, stellt Horváths literarisches Vermächtnis dar. Unmittelbar nach seiner Drucklegung verunglückte der Autor auf den Champs Elysées. Nach dem Erfolgsroman Jugend ohne Gott, der ein Jahr früher erschienen war, sicherte dieses Buch Horváths Rang als antifaschistischer Autor innerhalb der Exilliteratur. Das genetische Konvolut zu dem Roman ist mit über 270 Blatt eines der umfangreichsten in seinem Nachlass. Der Band macht die Genese des Romans aus den beiden Vorarbeiten Die stille Revolution und Krieg ohne Kriegserklärung und den drei Konzeptionen Ein Soldat seiner Zeit, Ein Soldat der Diktatur und Ein Kind unserer Zeit nachvollziehbar. Er liefert einen umfassenden Einblick in die komplexe Werkgenese des Romans, in der handschriftliche Entwürfe und Typoskripte oft parallel entstanden sind. Da das Einreichmanuskript des Romans nicht überliefert ist, basiert die Endfassung auf dem von Horváth autorisierten Erstdruck. Alle Abweichungen dazu finden sich im kritischen Apparat verzeichnet. So wird der Roman erstmals in seiner ganzen Entstehungsgeschichte und in seiner ursprünglichen Fassung lesbar.

Die Teile 3 und 4 schliessen nach den Teilen 1 und 2* die Verzeichnung des Manuskriptnachlasses Gerhart Hauptmanns ab. 1992 konnten die seit 1946 getrennt in Ost- und Westberlin liegenden Bestande vereinigt werden. Insgesamt umfasst der Nachlass 839 Signaturen mit 117.711 benutzten Seiten (60 Regalmeter). Teil 3 beschreibt 351 Signaturen in der Folge der Aufstellung, 80 Hauptmann-Texte (4.740 benutzte Seiten) in anderen Signaturengruppen der Staatsbibliothek und bringt fur Teil 1 und 2 Zusatze und Verbesserungen. Teil 4 enthalt das Register mit ca. 12.500 Eintragungen. Die Werke Hauptmanns sind einschliesslich aller Werktitel gattungsweise nach Entstehungsphasen aufgenommen, unterschieden nach Werktexten und Notaten. Damit sind die in der Staatsbibliothek vorhandenen Texte nachgewiesen und benutzbar, welche eine historisch-kritische Ausgabe aufnehmen musste. Verzeichnet sind ferner Kalender, Tagebucher, Notizen allgemeiner Art, sowie Personen und Sachen.

Over the past years the author has developed a quantum language going beyond the concepts used by Bohr and Heisenberg. The simple formal algebraic language is designed to be consistent with quantum theory. It differs from natural languages in its epistemology, modal structure, logical connections, and copulatives. Starting from ideas of John von Neumann and in part also as a response to his fundamental work, the author bases his approach on what one really observes when studying quantum processes. This way the new language can be seen as a clue to a deeper understanding of the concepts of quantum physics, at the same time avoiding those paradoxes which arise when using natural languages. The work is organized didactically: The reader learns in fairly concrete form about the language and its structure as well as about its use for physics.
