Il nous est assez difficile n�anmoins de comprendre, en lisant ce r�cit, les �clats de rire (roars of laughter) qu'il souleva � en Australie et aux Indes, � New-York et � Londres, � les nombreuses �ditions qu'il obtint, l'�pith�te � d'inimitable � que lui ont d�cern�e � l'envi les critiques de la presse anglaise. On va en juger par la traduction que nous en avons faite en nous attachant � conserver le mieux possible le ton goguenard de l'original..."
