The basis of the consecrated life is the following of Jesus Christ (VC. no. 90), which is a response to his invitation, "Follow Me" (Mt. 8: 22). This response consists in renouncing everything, in order to follow Jesus and to share in his life. This renunciation is a prerequisite for becoming Jesus' disciples, as Jesus Himself affirmed with the rich young man (Mt 19:21). Living in the society of globalization today, however, the consecrated person is facing too many difficulties and challenges. This study, entitled "The Vow of Poverty : A Challenge to the Young Religious in the Context of Vietnam Today" is aimed, first of all, to present a reality related to the vow of poverty, which is challenging the religious in Vietnam, particularly the young ones. This study is also aimed to recall the messages of the Gospel and of the Church on the matter, and thereby to point out a relevant way by which the Vietnamese young religious can recognize how they can live the vow of poverty among the poor and for the poor, especially in the form of sharing in the life of the most miserable people. This work, hopefully, would be able to strengthen in the researcher himself and in many young religious in Vietnam the awareness of the meaning and value of the evangelical poverty, in order to become effective witnesses of Christ in today's changing society.
