Topics dealt with include the adoption of Chinese writing and its subsequent adaptation in Japan, forms of writing employed in works such as the "Kojiki" and "Man'yoshu," development of the "kana" syllabaries, evolution of mixed character-"kana" orthography, historical "kana" usage, the rise of literacy during the Edo period, and the main changes that have taken place in written Japanese in the modern period (ca. 1868 onwards). This is the first full-length work in a European language to provide the Western reader with an overall account of the subject concerned, based on extensive examination of both primary and secondary materials.

"[Gladwin] accomplished, from the 1920's on, a series of fundamentally important studies of the prehistoric cultures of the region from Texas to California. None of these surveys or excavations was more important than the excavation of Snaketown, in the southern Arizona desert. It provided a wealth of details for a major prehistoric culture, the Hohokam, which previously had been scarcely recognized. It dislodged many long-held dogmas of Southwestern archaeology and provided the basis for a major reorientation in thinking about the nature of the prehistoric occupations of Arizona and adjacent states. . . . [This volume] has remained indispensable for its detailed reporting of house remains, ball courts, canals, cremations, pottery, carved stone, and other artifacts."—Science "The reprint will come as a blessing to many archaeologists who have sought in vain to obtain a copy of the original volume. It now stands as a body of data easily accessible to all workers, and we look forward to a new phase of synthesis of Hohokam archaeology."—American Antiquity

The Criteria For Those Who Reach The Top written by Toshio Egawa and has been published by Iseas - Yusof Ishak Institute this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

The world is no doubt full of self-improvement books. What sets Toshio Egawa's book apart is that its focus is more about being at The Top than about getting there. Of course, the traits that get you there and the traits that keep you there overlap in many cases. One could go further to say that it is not always clear whether one is on the way to the top, is at the top or is on the way down from the top. But there are ethical goals and self-reflections; social attitudes and pragmatic shrewdness, as well as a sense of time passing, which should be cultivated in any case if one is to live a full and meaningful life. The Top may not be a place that we can easily locate. As Egawa-san puts it: ""Being alive, we should, at least until we have aged too much, recompense and respect our situation by undertaking responsible work as human beings. Before we know it, we would have reached a certain age beyond which daily quietude, good health and physical safety become paramount. All the rest power, position, business results, assets, lust, et cetera are but brief moments, simply passing scenery."

Bali Modern written by Gianni Francione and has been published by Tuttle Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-11-06 with Photography categories.

Blending modern, chic designs with traditional sensibilities, the architecture and decor of Bali is the gold standard for tropical living. A thatched Balinese bale', overlooking a panorama of rice fields and open to the evening breeze, or a courtyard that combines temple carving with relaxing, recreational lounging space are enduring features of a distinctive "Bali-style". Shimmering pavilions, open verandahs, living rooms that invite the outside landscaping in—all are part of the Balinese tropical living experience. This book focuses on these timeless features and shows the new and exciting ways in which they are being interpreted. All the contemporary villas, resort bungalows, shops, restaurants and other buildings in the book, most never photographed before are new additions to the Bali scene. Each is unique, and, most importantly, characterized by a distinctly modern feel. Cleaner lines, more imaginative use of space, sharp angles, and the use of stone, concrete and ceramic roof tiles, are increasingly visible along with the coconut wood, teak and thatching. Stunning color photographs depict the residences set within their natural landscapes; architectural details; and a stunning array of individual interiors. Meticulous text compiled by an expert in tropical design, relates the various stages of the development of this new, international style, and complements the fascinating array of interiors featured.
