It has become well recognized that affective dimensions of language constitute an integral part of the linguistic system. Japanese provides a prime example of the significance of emotivity as it has grammaticalized a wide variety of expressions to communicate affective information. The collected articles demonstrate the rich diversity of emotive communication in Japanese and analyze various expressions with theoretical perspectives that are often independent from Western models. This volume reflects the influence of traditional Japanese scholars for whom examining affective-relational aspects of language has long been a central concern. The authors are also influenced by more recent scholars in Japanese pragmatics such as Susumu Kuno, Akio Kamio, and Senko K. Maynard. They also draw on anthropological notions such as the inside vs. outside dichotomy that have been used to describe Japanese society.

From the time fifteen-year-old Nyla was old enough to really understand things, she knew that she was different. Although she didn't want to be like her mama, who was fucking and sucking every dope boy in the hood, hoping to come out on top, she did yearn for attention from her old junior high school crush, Pete. Pete was a young dope boy trying to make a name for himself in the streets and in the process made his way into Nyla's heart, but after stumbling upon something unspeakable, Pete decided he wanted more than just her heart. Pete and his friend Cedrick ultimately created some tension between the crew, causing themselves to be blackballed and forced out the game by Jay, who was the man in Cincinnati. While dealing with a life-altering experience, Nyla came across someone who would soon help her discover the beast within her. Jamal was a twenty-three-year-old boss! Tall smooth dark-chocolate skin, bowlegs, and the most perfect set of white teeth she'd ever seen. Oh, and his body was pure perfection. Jamal took no shit! He was very serious and hardly ever showed that smile, but when he met Nyla, she gave him reasons to let a softer side to show. After being struck with yet another devastating blow, Nyla's best friend Shay told Jamal of the horrific things that had happened to Nyla, thus thrusting them both into a world that they never thought that they would know, let alone be a part of. Nyla jumped in the game with both feet under the guidance of Jamal and the rest of the crew as she found the woman within. The days of being that passive little girl were over! It was time to start making some real boss moves, grown-woman shit, and she was here for it!

Halfway Home written by Reuben Jonathan Miller and has been published by Hachette UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-02-02 with Social Science categories.

A "persuasive and essential" (Matthew Desmond) work that will forever change how we look at life after prison in America through Miller's "stunning, and deeply painful reckoning with our nation's carceral system" (Heather Ann Thompson). Each year, more than half a million Americans are released from prison and join a population of twenty million people who live with a felony record. Reuben Miller, a chaplain at the Cook County Jail in Chicago and now a sociologist studying mass incarceration, spent years alongside prisoners, ex-prisoners, their friends, and their families to understand the lifelong burden that even a single arrest can entail. What his work revealed is a simple, if overlooked truth: life after incarceration is its own form of prison. The idea that one can serve their debt and return to life as a full-fledge member of society is one of America's most nefarious myths. Recently released individuals are faced with jobs that are off-limits, apartments that cannot be occupied and votes that cannot be cast. As The Color of Law exposed about our understanding of housing segregation, Halfway Home shows that the American justice system was not created to rehabilitate. Parole is structured to keep classes of Americans impoverished, unstable, and disenfranchised long after they've paid their debt to society. Informed by Miller's experience as the son and brother of incarcerated men, captures the stories of the men, women, and communities fighting against a system that is designed for them to fail. It is a poignant and eye-opening call to arms that reveals how laws, rules, and regulations extract a tangible cost not only from those working to rebuild their lives, but also our democracy. As Miller searchingly explores, America must acknowledge and value the lives of its formerly imprisoned citizens. Intheworldweliveinconcurrencyisthenorm.Forexample, thehumanbody isamassivelyconcurrentsystem,comprisingahugenumberofcells,allsim- taneously evolving and independently engaging in their individual biological processing.Inaddition, inthebiologicalworld, trulysequentialsystemsrarely arise. However, they are more common when manmade artefacts are cons- ered. In particular, computer systems are often developed from a sequential perspective. Why is this? The simple reason is that it is easier for us to think about sequential, rather than concurrent, systems. Thus, we use sequentiality as a device to simplify the design process. However, the need for increasingly powerful, ?exible and usable computer systems mitigates against simplifying sequentiality assumptions. A good - ample of this is the all-powerful position held by the Internet, which is highly concurrent at many di?erent levels of decomposition. Thus, the modern c- puter scientist (and indeed the modern scientist in general) is forced to think aboutconcurrentsystemsandthesubtleandintricatebehaviourthatemerges from the interaction of simultaneously evolving components. Over a period of 25 years, or so, the ?eld of concurrency theory has been involved in the development of a set of mathematical techniques that can help system developers to think about and build concurrent systems. These theories are the subject matter of this book.

From the moment Animal's former lover Red Sonja showed up on his doorstep, he knew trouble wouldn't be far behind. It wasn't because the last time he'd seen her, he had been fleeing for his life from a strange island. Nor was it because of the little girl she had in tow, claiming Animal was the father. It was because women like Red Sonja carried trouble around with them like designer purses. He knew getting involved with Sonja again would come at a price, but he had no idea how steep the price would be until it was too late. With his wife gone and his children abducted by a ruthless drug cartel, Animal must lead a suicide mission into the lair of one of the most dangerous assassins in the world, a woman who calls herself Tiger Lily. To go against Tiger Lily and the cartel Animal would need an army, so the call to arms is put out and the streets readily answer. Leading a handful of loyal souls against seemingly insurmountable odds, Animal races against the clock to save his children and put a stop to Tiger Lily and the cartel's plans, while trying to stay one step ahead of the two detectives following the trail of bodies. Things take an unexpected turn when Animal learns a dark truth hidden beneath what he had been led to believe that changes everything, including who can be trusted. When the Grand Design his father had always spoken of is finally revealed Animal will be forced to make the hard choice between love, loyalty, and vengeance.

As an old hippie, Jesus freak, I cannot help but question authority. I have done so with established beliefs of major denominations. I compare what denominations teach as sound doctrine and compare them to what the Biblethe sole authorityteaches in reality. For example, hell is accepted and taught as literal fire and eternal torment when Scripture actually reveals something opposite and totally different.
