"There is no one quite like Lloyd Schwartz, whose unique combination of comedy and pathos is rare in contemporary American poetry. Over the years and books, Schwartz has developed a pitch-perfect ear for dialogue, producing poems that are hilarious in their depiction of unsettling social situations, while still managing to find the kernel of poignancy buried in everyday encounters. He is a master of the speech-driven style of verse, which is based on overheard, interrupted, or invented conversations that are by turns humorous and deeply unsettling, intimate yet decorous. In the new poems section, Schwartz brings his broad experience across the arts (including his many years as a music critic and commentator) to bear, with poems that recall the feeling of both performing and apprehending a piece of music, say, or a painting, a film, or a poem; he explores the figures depicted within these artworks, their fears and desires, revealing whole unexplored, interior worlds, a universe in a pack of tarot cards. This collection, which gathers the very best of Schwartz's work over his long, distinguished career, amply displays the tenderness and delicacy of feeling that we've come to rely on in his poetry. "Who's on First?" is a fitting capstone to a long life lived in the arts"--

"If all goes well, the time will come when one will take up the memorabilia of Socrates rather than the Bible as a guide to morals and reason.""Never yield to remorse, but at once tell yourself: remorse would simply mean adding to the first act of stupidity a second."In 1880, the third part of Human, All Too Human was released - 'The Wanderer and His Shadow'. It is a collection of independent aphorisms that dealt mostly with Man Alone with Himself. Translated by Paul Victor Cohn.

When Milo is in fifth grade, his parents get divorced, and his teacher, Ms. Swinford, helps him make it through the year. He loves hearing her sing "The Happy Wanderer" and reminisce about the year she lived in Switzerland during college, practically on the misty slopes of the Matterhorn. The Matterhorn! During the next five years, Milo moves through the mists of Washington State - from place to place and school to school - while his mother tries to figure out what to do with her life. Along the way, he tries to "seek the truth," as his free-spirited father urged him to do before he left, but he never forgets Ms. Swinford and her tales of Switzerland. Then, when he gets the chance to see Ms. Swinford again, his understanding of what is true is shaken.

Half Lined Half Blank Notebook (drawing + notes) for daily use MULTIPURPOSE: Perfect for taking notes, drawing, jotting down thoughts, and just about anything. COVER DESIGN: A bold and beautiful reproduction of "Wanderer above the Sea of Fog" by Caspar David Friedrich (1818) SIZE: 8.5 x 11 inches - 100 pages - Large Size What makes "Wanderer above the Sea of Fog" so special? Wanderer above the Sea of Fog is an oil painting by Caspar David Friedrich, who is considered one of the most important German artists of the 19th century. It was painted circa 1818 and is also known as the Mountaineer in a Misty Landscape or Wanderer above the Mist. The painting is widely known as one of the greatest and most popular works of Romanticism. It is also thought to be one that represents Friedrich's style the most. The oil painting shows a lone man, dressed formally in boots and a dark green overcoat, holding a walking cane and looking out over a cloudy, inhospitable landscape from an outcropping of dark, craggy rocks. His back is to the viewer. His dark brown hair tousled by the wind and his left hand resting on his left knee, the man stands perfectly still above what appears to be a tumultuous swirling of clouds beneath his feet. In front of the subject, the vast landscape flows on, concluding with hazy mountains and a light-filled rosy sky filled with wisps of mist and puffs of white clouds in the background. As the figure looks out over the terrain, the viewer senses not just the calm and quiet of the man's solitude, but also the sheer and somewhat terrifying power of nature. Wanderer above the Sea of Fog currently hangs in the Kunsthalle Hamburg, one of the largest museums in Germany. It is an iconic image that has graced the cover of the 1990 book The Ideology of the Aesthetic by Terry Eagleton and an album of Franz Schubert's Wanderer-Fantasie by classical pianist Maurizio Pollini, among other things.
