Tartessian written by John T. Koch and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013 with Celtiberian language categories.

Beyond the Aegean, some of the earliest written records of Europe come from the south-west, what is now southern Portugal and south-west Spain. Herodotus, the 'Father of History', locates the Keltoi or 'Celts' in this region, as neighbours of the Kunetes of the Algarve. He calls the latter the 'westernmost people of Europe'. However, modern scholars have been disinclined - until recently - to consider the possibility that the south-western inscriptions and other early linguistic evidence from the kingdom of Tartessos were Celtic. This book shows how much of this material closely resembles the attested Celtic languages: Celtiberian (spoken in east-central Spain) and Gaulish, as well as the longer surviving langiages of Ireland, Britain and Brittany. In many cases, the 85 Tartessian inscriptions of the period c. 750-c. 450 BC can now be read as complete statements written in an Ancient Celtic language.

The Jews Of The Soviet Union written by Benjamin Pinkus and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1988 with Jews categories.

This is a comprehensive and topical history of the Jews in the Soviet Union and is based on firsthand documentary evidence and the application of a pioneering research method into the fate of national minorities. Within a four-part chronological framework, Professor Pinkus examines not only the legal-political status of the Jews, and their reciprocal relationship with the Soviet majority, but also the impact of internal economic, demographic and social processes upon the religious, educational and cultural life of Soviet Jewry. A second layer of analysis describes in depth the complex linkages between the Jews of the Soviet Union, the Jews in other diasporas and the state of Israel itself. The Jews of the Soviet Union marks a major contribution to the historiography and social analysis of its subject and provides a worthy companion to Professor Pinkus's acclaimed documentary study The Soviet Union and the Jews 1948-1967.

MUSEUM OF UNHEARD (OF) THINGS is the catalogue raisonne of the world-famous "literary cabinet of curiosities" in Berlin, which holds the record of being the most visited museum in the German capital (if one offsets the number of visitors to the square meters of the exhibition space). The museum collects unique objects to which curator Roland Albrecht has patiently lent his ear in order to hear the unheard (of) story each of them has to tell. This book is the first publication to assemble all the 78 stories in the current collection, all categorized according to weight, translated into English for the first time. Included are unheard (of) tales about a clock of a Swiss inventor who promoted "New-Time"-where the day was only twenty hours long, an hour fifty minutes, and a minute fifty seconds-and was subsequently arrested by the authorities, the first portrait ID card in history created for Michel de Montaigne, a fork which reveals the secret history of a meeting of chefs in the Alps, the stone that inspired Thomas Mann to write many of his stories, or the scandalous relationship between the Brothers Grimm and alphabet soup. The book ends with a story about the museum itself which may make some readers ponder about the veracity of its existence. These extraordinary tales of seemingly ordinary objects invite the reader to imagine the world differently by listening more carefully and intimately to all the things that surround our everyday lives. "The present is always a story presented by the winners of history. With a gaze kindred to Walter Benjamin's, Albrecht collects things which appear utterly trivial in the given here and now. With patience kindred to Sigmund Freud's, he listens to them until they start revealing their stories. With a playful spirit kindred to Jorge Luis Borges, he writes them down. The result is a gentle but persistent wake-up call in the form of short stories, which cracks the tyranny of present and offers a glimpse into the unheard (of) world of things devoid of victors and losers, but full of tales that await to be told." - CODY EIKMAN "Berlin exists for Museum der Unerhorten Dinge, or maybe the whole world exists for this small museum. Finally its secrets have been translated into English from German." - TOMOMI ADACHI"

The Celts written by M. Chapman and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1992-09-15 with Social Science categories.

The Celts are commonly considered to be one of the great peoples of Europe, with continuous racial, cultural and linguistic genealogy from the Iron Age to the modern-day 'Celtic fringe'. This book shows, in contrast, that the Celts, as they have been known and understood over two thousand years, are simply the 'other' of the dominant cultural and political traditions of Europe. It is this continuous 'otherness' which lends them apparent continuity and substance.

This collection of essays is the first edited volume in the English language which is entirely dedicated to the work of Eugen Ehrlich. Eugen Ehrlich (1862-1922) was an eminent Austrian legal theorist and professor of Roman law. He is considered by many as one of the 'founding fathers' of modern sociology of law. Although the importance of his work (including his concept of 'living law') is widely recognised, Ehrlich has not yet received the serious international attention he deserves. Therefore, this collection of essays is aimed at 'reconsidering' Eugen Ehrlich by bringing together an interdisciplinary group of leading international experts to discuss both the historical and theoretical context of his work and its relevance for contemporary law and society scholarship. This book has been divided into four parts. Part I of this volume paints a lively picture of the Bukowina, in southeastern Europe, where Ehrlich was born in 1862. Moreover it considers the political and academic atmosphere at the end of the nineteenth century. Part II discusses the main concepts and ideas of Ehrlich's sociology of law and considers the reception of Ehrlich's work in the German speaking world, in the United States and in Japan. Part III of this volume is concerned with the work of Ehrlich in relation to that of some his contemporaries, including Roscoe Pound, Hans Kelsen and Cornelis van Vollenhoven. Part IV focuses on the relevance of Ehrlich's work for current socio-legal studies. This volume provides both an introduction to the important and innovative scholarship of Eugen Ehrlich as well as a starting point for further reading and discussion.
