This book makes four bold claims: 1) life is an ultimate datum, open to philosophical analysis and irreducible to physical reality; hence all materialist-reductionist explanations - most current theories - of life are false. 2) All life presupposes soul (entelechy) without which a being would at best fake life. 3) The concept of life is analogous and the most direct access to life in its irreducibility is gained through consciousness; 4) All life possesses an objective and intrinsic value that needs to be respected, human life possesses beyond this an inviolable dignity. Life and personal life are pure perfections, it being absolutely better to possess (personal) life than not to possess it. Chapter 1: the metaphysical essence and the many meanings of 'life,' as well as its 'transcendental' character. Chapter 2: the irreducibility of biological life, its amazing empirical and philosophically intelligible essential features, and the ways of knowing them. Chapter 3: the immediate evidence and indubitable givenness of mental, conscious life as well as questions of (brain-) death and immortality. Chapter 4: the inviolable objective dignity of personal life and its self-transcendence; a new theory of the fourfold source of human dignity and rights. Chapter 5 (in dialogue-form): methods and results of philosophy versus those of empirical life-sciences.

When it comes to the subject of Life, we seem to have a blind spot.Throughout the ages, the question of what Life is has been asked and answered a thousand times and invariably both the question and the answer center on Life's attributes: what it does, where it came from, what created it, what its meaning is... What you won't find is the answer telling you what Life is.We seem unable to consider Life as a presence in and of itself, independent from life forms and outside the context of alive versus dead. When you die everything that was enclosed by your skin is still there, except Life. Life has left you. But what is that thing called Life? What is it made of?Does Life have particles? If it did, wouldn't science have found them by now? Is it energy? If it is, wouldn't scientists be manipulating it? Why have we not been able to capture or isolate it?What Life Is; Dancing on the Edge of Eternity, is not an intellectual or philosophical argument, nor does it promote a religious platform. It touches the subject of Life unlike any other text, exploring the most essential question we can ask. The answer it offers is life-changing and may surprise you.

The book of Erwin Schrödinger about life evokes a variety of basic questions concerning the understanding of life in terms of modern physics rather than biochemistry. Problems of organization and regulation of biological systems cannot be understood by revealing only the chemical processes of the living state. A group of reputable physicists — among them the followers of Heisenberg and Fröhlich — and biologists came to this same conclusion through several workshops on this topic. This book contains their contributions, written from different viewpoints of theoretical physics and modern biology. These articles are valuable not only for understanding life, but also for creating new and non-invasive diagnostic and therapeutic tools in medicine; they also contribute importantly to a deeper understanding of evolutionary processes, including the development of consciousness.

Describe life Life is a difficult and always-changing journey. It is a collection of singular, unreplicable experiences, both magnificent and commonplace. Life can be very rewarding and gratifying, but it can also be quite difficult and challenging. There are times of happiness and sadness, of love and loss, of success and failure. Learning, adapting, growing, and changing are ongoing processes. There are highs and lows, pleasant surprises, and heartbreaking setbacks in life. It is full of both good and bad, happiness and agony. Life cannot be defined in a single way, nor can it be lived in a single way. Life is not reducible to a single formula or set of principles because everyone's experience of it is unique. It is a difficult and dynamic road, and every person's life is different and unpredictable. In the end, living is about discovering meaning and purpose.

What Is Life written by Erwin Schrodinger and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-04-07 with categories.

Nobel laureate Erwin Schrodinger's What is Life? is one of the great science classics of the twentieth century. A distinguished physicist's exploration of the question which lies at the heart of biology, it was written for the layman, but proved one of the spurs to the birth of molecular biology and the subsequent discovery of the structure of DNA. The philosopher Karl Popper hailed it as a 'beautiful and important book' by 'a great man to whom I owe a personal debt for many exciting discussions'. It appears here together with Mind and Matter, his essay investigating a relationship which has eluded and puzzled philosophers since the earliest times. Schrodinger asks what place consciousness occupies in the evolution of life, and what part the state of development of the human mind plays in moral questions. Brought together with these two classics are Schrodinger's autobiographical sketches, published and translated here for the first time. They offer a fascinating fragmentary account of his life as a background to his scientific writings, making this volume a valuable additon to the shelves of scientist and layman alike."
