Art Insight written by Fanchon Jean Silberstein and has been published by Intellect (UK) this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020 with Art categories.

A first encounter with art is like meeting a stranger: it opens you to new ideas, people, places, and parts of yourself. In Art inSight: Understanding Art and Why It Matters, Fanchon Silberstein delves into the first known art and explores what it can reveal about how its makers saw the world and how contemporary artists can help us to see our own. The result is equal parts an ode to the joy of artful engagement, a how-to for anyone interested in understanding art and culture, and a journey around the world from prehistory to the present day. Readers confront strangeness through observation, description, and conversation, and are given the skills to understand cross-cultural divisions and perceive diverse ways of interpreting the world. Organized by ideas rather than history, chronology, or cultures, the book presents dialogues, imagining interactions between paintings created centuries apart, and describing discussions among students learning the role of art in conflict resolution. By emphasizing the relationship between viewer and image, Art inSight urges readers to discover meaning in their own ways and offers questions that lead them into profound connections with works of art and the cultures behind them.

An Artist S Life written by Dorothea S. Wendlandt and has been published by Trafford this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006 with categories.

I started my book with the line "I don't remember the time when I didn't want to be an artist." Yes, but there were many times when I would have liked to forget it. My mother, who was not crazy about the idea, was fond of saying, "but you could always paint on the side." However, as fate or the Gods would have it, at least something supernatural kept pushing me to that end, as if I had "ARTIST" indelibly stamped on my forehead. So this story is all about the things I had to go through to achieve a reasonable height in my fated field of endeavor. I started out by describing some of my early childhood encounters with the painting and drawing: the relatives, the adoring public, school chums, teachers, and some who don't like or approve of artists like all of the above, and some boy friends and girl friends. I had many adventures on my way to the top, some happy, some sad, some terrible, some downright weird. My editor thinks the book is like a group of short stories, all somewhat funny. I'm not sure they were all funny, not when I was living them. I also put in some of the humorous and tragic things that happened to me along the way, but mostly I stuck to the challenges, pitfalls, and triumphs of an art career. In the middle of my trip to the top position in the commercial art advertising field I made a detour into a fine arts promotional art position. It was an eight year sting doing mostly fine arts, an artist's dream job. Imagine being paid to do what I thought of as fun and games. This time of my life makes the book more versatile and interesting to the reader and especially to the would-be fine artist or craftsman, or the simply curious about an artist's life. In the end I got what I wanted; the top position of art director of the whole corporation.

My Life As A Work Of Art written by Katya Tylevich and has been published by Laurence King Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-10-11 with Art, Modern categories.

Why is this art? The world of contemporary art can seem intimidating, absurd, and self-obsessed, while the sums of money exchanged are baffling. Writing on contemporary art is often tortured and confused, ignoring the important questions: What is contemporary art? How does it relate to money and power? How is it made? Will it survive? To answer these questions, Katya Tylevich and Ben Eastham offer a series of short biographies on eight great works of twenty-first century art by Martin Creed, Barry McGee, Camille Henrot, Marina Abramovic, Philippe Parreno and Pierre Huyghe, Erwin Wurm, Michaël Borremans, and Gregory Crewdson. They follow these paintings, films, installations, experiences, experiments, sculptures, and performances through all the key stages of their existence so far – from the delicate quiet of the studio to the grand chaos of the art world. A funny, engaging, personal guide through the world of art today, My Life as a Work of Art takes as its starting point the only really important thing: the work of art itself.

The Lives Loves And Art Of Arthur B Davies written by Bennard B. Perlman and has been published by SUNY Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998-01-01 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

This is the first full-length biography of the American artist Arthur B. Davies, who played a major role in twentieth-century American art's coming-of-age. It was Davies who made possible the landmark exhibitions of The Eight and The Rockwell Kent Independent, and in 1913 he emerged as the mastermind behind the Armory Show, the first large-scale display of European modern art in the United States. Drawing on extensive archival research, including previously unavailable letters and diaries, this book covers the breadth and depth of the artist's life and career, from his boyhood in Utica in the 1860s; through his close association with such artists and collectors as Robert Henri, John Sloan, Alfred Stieglitz, Lizzie Bliss, and Abby Aldrich Rockefeller; to his death in Italy in 1928 in the company of his mistress, with whom he had lived a secret double life as "David A. Owen" for more than twenty years. Included are 101 color and black-and-white illustrations of Davies's own work, ranging from romantic dream visions to fragmented cubist forms, as well as photographs depicting his family and friends.
