Every leaf that falls from a tree becomes part of a new circle. In non-human ecosystems, everything is re-used or re-purposed. The natural world is the perfect circular system. Why is the same not true for humankind? Most of the things we possess will ultimately not be used for a long period of time. The current take-make-waste approach is a given fact of our present economy that we have perfected since the industrial revolution. The editors Dr Guenther Dobrauz-Saldapenna and Nicolas Huras believe that we urgently need to change our ways of producing, consuming and living. It is time to seriously consider circular economy as an alternative model. This book brings together thinkers and innovators from academia as well as business who share their ideas. Does it deliver answers to all our challenges? Probably not, but it is a great place to start. The future must be circular and decentralized! This book was printed according to the Cradle to Cradle® principle. The dust jacket contains flower seeds and can be planted in the ground: watch the flowers grow!

Economy In Changing Society written by Maria Nawojczyk and has been published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-01-18 with Social Science categories.

Economy is embedded in ongoing concrete social networks, and economic processes are increasingly international in character. Three interrelated processes are crucial for setting the frame of analysis for this book: globalisation, development of post-industrial societies, and transformation of European post-socialist countries. Within this framework the main issues are as follows: (1) Economies in transition: reliable patterns, imitation, local adaptation, cultural embeddedness; (2) Multiplicity of markets: commodification of life, new markets in old societies; (3) Economic behavior: households, micro-enterprises, local and global influences; (4) Contemporary polities, i.e. states, the European Union and global corporations. The stress will be placed on actors, relations and institutions as the driving forces of the above described processes. The authors of this collection, based on their empirical material, analyze very interesting socio-economic issues. These are: ethical consumption from the perspective of the moral economy and its connection to political institutions in Europe (and particularly in Hungary); the cultural context of consumption, both in the case of social networks in Bangladesh and of counterfeited goods on the Russian market; the new and old, individual and organizational actors in transition economies, for instance in Poland and Croatia; the new approach to corporations as global actors, stressing their social responsibility; the dynamics of managerial practices in the example of Russia; the influence of EU funds and policies on the Polish SMEs market; the cultural embeddedness of economic behavior, in the case of Poles working in the Scottish market and of entrepreneurs in Damascus; the retirement policy in the fast aging societies of Spain and Poland; and the emergence of the new markets, like that of health services, in Russia and that of the property market in Eastern and Central Europe.

In this insightful and engaging introduction to the psychology of consumption, Cathrine Jansson-Boyd discusses the various ways that consumer activities pervade our everyday lives, whether we are buying the latest trends to keep up with our peers or altering our physical looks so that we can fit the media's beauty mould. Highlighting why the spread of consumption through society is so important, the book looks at the impact on both children and the environment as well as at ethical considerations. Consumption Matters is the essential starting point for both students and general readers interested in consumer psychology.

Recent Developments In Applied Demand Analysis written by E.A. Selvanathan and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Business & Economics categories.

The study of consumer demand is important for a number of reasons. First, as total consumption absorbs more than 70 percent of GDP in most countries, it is the largest of the macroeconomic aggregates, thus having great significance for the state of the economy as a whole and business conditions. Second, the pattern of consumption contains a wealth of useful information regarding economic welfare and living standards. Closely allied to this is that as consumption (both current and future) is the ultimate objective of all economic activity and economic systems (mercantilists notwithstanding), in a fundamental sense consumption patterns are an objective way of measuring and assessing economic performance. Finally, an understanding of the price-responsiveness of consumption is of crucial importance for a host of microeconomic policy issues including public-utility pricing, the measurement of distortions, optimal taxation and the treatment of externalities. The analysis of consumer demand is one of the major successes of economics as it represents the near perfect marriage of theory and econometrics, a situation almost unparalleled in any other field of economics. This field has attracted a lot of attention since the introduction of the linear expenditure system and its application to British data by Stone (1954), followed by the differential demand system of Barten (1964) and Theil (1965, 1975176, 1980) and developments thereafter.

This volume is concerned with the complexities of the relationship between globalization and different groups of consumers in developing countries. Globalization, it is argued, can yield frustration and disappointment as well as welfare gains for consumers; it may, but does not necessarily, displace local products and via the rapid recent expansion of the mass media, it offers policy-makers new opportunities to deal with acute social problems.
