Brainstorm written by Daniel J. Siegel MD and has been published by Penguin this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-01-07 with Family & Relationships categories.

In this New York Times–bestselling book, Dr. Daniel Siegel shows parents how to turn one of the most challenging developmental periods in their children’s lives into one of the most rewarding. Between the ages of twelve and twenty-four, the brain changes in important and, at times, challenging ways. In Brainstorm, Dr. Daniel Siegel busts a number of commonly held myths about adolescence—for example, that it is merely a stage of “immaturity” filled with often “crazy” behavior. According to Siegel, during adolescence we learn vital skills, such as how to leave home and enter the larger world, connect deeply with others, and safely experiment and take risks. Drawing on important new research in the field of interpersonal neurobiology, Siegel explores exciting ways in which understanding how the brain functions can improve the lives of adolescents, making their relationships more fulfilling and less lonely and distressing on both sides of the generational divide.

In this groundbreaking book, the bestselling author of Parenting from the Inside Out and The Whole-Brain Child shows parents how to turn one of the most challenging developmental periods in their children’s lives into one of the most rewarding. Between the ages of 12 and 24, the brain changes in important and often maddening ways. It’s no wonder that many parents approach their child’s adolescence with fear and trepidation. According to renowned neuropsychiatrist Daniel Siegel, however, if parents and teens can work together to form a deeper understanding of the brain science behind all the tumult, they will be able to turn conflict into connection and form a deeper understanding of one another. In Brainstorm, Siegel illuminates how brain development affects teenagers’ behaviour and relationships. Drawing on important new research in the field of interpersonal neurobiology, he explores exciting ways in which understanding how the teenage brain functions can help parents make what is in fact an incredibly positive period of growth, change, and experimentation in their children’s lives less lonely and distressing on both sides of the generational divide.

It’s true: a mind is a terrible thing to waste. Yet that’s what we do when we spend our weekend — and neurons — reliving a workplace squabble, spend a family visit chewing over childhood issues, or spend hours beating ourselves up when someone brings one of our own long-held (but never worked on) ideas to fruition. This kind of obsessing gets us, like a hamster on a wheel, nowhere. But as noted creativity expert Eric Maisel asserts, obsessing productively leads to fulfillment rather than frustration. A productive obsession, whether an idea for a novel, a business, or a vaccine, is chosen deliberately and pursued with determination. In this provocative, practical guide, Maisel coaches you to use the tendency to obsess to your creative advantage, fulfilling both your promise and your promises to yourself.

'I loved it. She is in my view the best science writer around - a true descendant of Oliver Sacks' Sathnam Sanghera, author of The Boy with the Topknot The brain is the most complex structure in the universe. In Brainstorm the Wellcome Prize-winning author of It’s All in Your Head uncovers the most eye-opening symptoms medicine has to offer. ‘Powerfully life-affirming... Brainstorm is testament to O'Sullivan's unshowy clarity of thought and her continued marvelling at the mysteries of the brain’ Guardian Brainstorm examines the stories of people whose symptoms are so strange even their doctor struggles to know how to solve them. A man who sees cartoon characters running across the room; a teenager who one day arrives home with inexplicably torn clothes; a girl whose world turns all Alice in Wonderland; another who transforms into a ragdoll whenever she even thinks about moving. The brain is the most complex structure in the universe, and neurologists must puzzle out life-changing diagnoses from the tiniest of clues – it’s the ultimate in medical detective work. In this riveting book, one of the UK’s leading neurologists takes you with her as she follows the trail of her patients’ symptoms: feelings of déjà vu lead us to a damaged hippocampus; spitting and fidgeting to the right temporal lobe; fear of movement to a brain tumour; a missed heart beat to the limbic system. It’s a journey that will open your eyes to the unfathomable intricacies of the brain, and the infinite variety of human capacity and experience.

When faced with a difficult problem, one of the best ways of finding an effective solution is to organize a brainstorming session. Brainstorming is a group ideation method that was popularized by Alex Faickney Osborn in the 1953 book Applied Imagination. Brainstorming remains today one of the most powerful methods available for developing original ideas. Brainstorming is a way of applying a collaborative approach to innovation. There are many different brainstorming methods. Different design practitioners can select different methods and apply them in different ways. You do not need to be an expert to participate in a brainstorm. The best results are obtained with a diverse team of participants which may include managers, designers, engineers, marketing, sales manufacturing professionals and end users of the product or service with people from different disciplines, cultures, gender, income and ages. This book includes methods with a variety of different approaches to brainstorming. I have included a number of warming up exercises which will help your participants produce productive outcomes quickly. Western organizations are turning to innovation as a primary way of differentiating their offering.

Brainstorming Your Presentation written by Dirk Haun and has been published by Dirk Haun this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-04-05 with Business & Economics categories.

The very first step when working on a presentation is to brainstorm what you're actually going to be speaking about. But how, exactly, do you brainstorm, and how do you do it in an effective way? "Brainstorming Your Presentation" has the answers, the how-tos, and the tools. In the introduction to "Presenting for Geeks", I wrote: "Writing down what you know about a topic and what you consider important (in other words brainstorming) is actually a good way to start preparing for a presentation." While the book did go into a little more detail, it took me a while to realise that many people are still struggling with this first but important step for their presentation. How do you brainstorm effectively? Are there any tools and techniques that you can use? And what, exactly, does it even mean to brainstorm? "Brainstorming Your Presentation" delivers the answers to these questions. As the title suggests, it focusses on helping you brainstorm when you're working on a presentation. The book has two parts. In the first part, you'll learn how to brainstorm for a presentation, and how to do it effectively. The second part discusses examples, how-tos, and tools that will help you brainstorm in a modern world.

Sara Schley is the founder of a consulting business and has worked with hundreds of renowned companies worldwide. She's a proud mother, grandmother, community leader and has been married for twenty-six years. She also has a bipolar II brain. Fearing the stigma, she kept this secret for decades. Until now. In her acclaimed memoir BrainStorm: From Broken to Blessed on the Bipolar Spectrum, Sara tells her life-changing story to help end the bipolar stigma, optimize brain health, and save lives. At twenty-one, as a senior in college, Sara was a scholar-athlete who seemed to have it all. Then, like the flip of a switch, she had her first brain breakdown: A tailspin into a living hell. It was terrifying. It took her twenty-five years and five psychiatrists to get the diagnosis that saved her life: Sara is on the bipolar spectrum with a bipolar II brain. If you've never heard of the bipolar spectrum, you're not alone: Most healthcare professionals still don't know it exists. Misdiagnosis results and the wrong medications make broken brains worse. However, bipolar exists on a broad spectrum. Understanding this changes everything: With the correct diagnosis, medication, support, and self-care, people who have experienced severe, persistent depression-which is actually a form of bipolar-can live rich, full lives. Sara's life is proof. The self-care disciplines Sara has honed over forty years of living with her bipolar II brain can help anyone who experiences anxiety, stress, or depression heal. Read this book to transform your life or that of someone you love.

Operation Brainstorm written by Simon Robert Sinclair and has been published by AuthorHouse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-12-02 with Fiction categories.

In the 21st century the world had hit a crisis with mental health, the demands for caring for people with mental health conditions were dire. Few people wanted to take responsibility for anyone with any mental health problems, in the United States of America alone people with serious mental health conditions were falling through the cracks in the system. Victims had very little sympathy shown to them and often landed in emergency rooms, county jails and on the city streets. These so called ‘lucky people’ were ending up in the morgue according to U.S.A Today, a popular newspaper of this time. It was the year 2180 the world had changed as technology had advanced and scientists were inventing things that would have been thought impossible in the 20th century. However one of the most amazing inventions came from a Norwegian scientist called Jon Ulrichsen, he had created a machine that was capable of analysing and curing brain dysfunctions. Ulrichsen along with his daughter Kristina with assistance from other scientists put together an invention that Kristina named ‘Brainstorm’ it was like a scanning machine but did far more than this, it became multi- functional and even cured such things as Alzheimer’s type dementia, vascular dementia and repaired brain damage. The invention was revolutionary but it appealed to not only scientists and surgeons but terrorists who planned to steal the equipment and kidnap the scientists so that they could use the equipment to take over governments all over the world. It was decided by the world powers that Brainstorm was too dangerous and had to be destroyed along with the scientists. Both the Americans and the Russians formed their own strategies to destroy the equipment and the Americans called the mission ‘Operation Brainstorm’
