Who am I? Why am I? Where am I headed and where have I been? These are just some of the questions that concern the author of Going Beyond the Jesus Story, a book that ranges freely across complex and intriguing subject areas such as the nature of religious belief, contemplative and meditative experience, lucid dreaming, the role of feeling in our appreciation of reality, the inherently spiritual nature of asking questions, and our need to go beyond not only the Jesus story as it has come down to us, but also the ingrained notion that self is an ongoing, uninterrupted experience of the conscious mind that can be taken for granted. Directing our attention to the nature of attention itself, we are introduced, step by carefully constructed step, to the idea that consciousness is not what we have assumed it to be, or conscious awareness quite as conscious as we like to think it is. Delving into history, theology and philosophy in an attempt to reach an integrated understanding of the religious and secular problems we face as human beings, the author examines ideas that confront and challenge on just about every level, ideas that carry us towards an appreciation of what it means to presence the self to the self as an experience in its own right. At this point theory gives way to experiment, to methodology, to a knowing or seeing that makes this book a unique contribution to the study of human sentience and its evolved, and evolving structures.

Story In The Stars written by Joe Amaral and has been published by Hachette UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-10-30 with Religion categories.

An in-depth look at the powerful story and symbolism behind God's unique design of our universe. Thousands of words have been written about the first ten words in the Bible: "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth," a simple and profound statement that has ignited a firestorm of debate and controversy. People often only focus on the "how" and "when" of creation, but Story in the Stars explores the "why." Why did God create such a vast universe? Why did He choose the sun and moon to light our paths? Why did He design images with stars in the night sky? The Bible is very clear when it states that God created, named, and positioned all of the stars of the universe in their place in a very specific way-a way that tells us the greatest story ever to be told. In Luke 21:25 Jesus says, "There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars." Signs are meant to point us towards something: Jesus. Story in the Stars takes an in-depth look at the Bible and all the signs God mapped out through constellations, planets, and even the way the Earth is tilted. We are uniquely designed by God, and He loves us so much that He ensured a way for all inhabitants of the earth, through all of time, to see the messages of salvation and redemption that He painted in the stars.

The True Story Of Jesus The Christ written by Thomas Kerrins and has been published by FriesenPress this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-11 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

In 'The True Story of Jesus the Christ', author Thomas Kerrins examines the validity of the Story of Creation. To validate the Old Testament narrative of our history, that Jesus himself exists only because of Mankind's rebellion toward God starting with Adam, Thomas uses as evidence the Flood; the trials and tribulations of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; and the clues found beneath the sands of the Middle East. He also looks at the followers of Jesus, to find out who they were and what role they played in the beginning of Christianity. Many experts and theologians are quoted, such as Dr. Juris Zarins, who shows through satellite imagery of Iraq, Iran, and Syria, the existence of fossilized rivers pinpointing the possible existence of Eden. Also quoted is Henry Rawlinson, who discovered the Behistune inscription that provided a tool to read another version of creation from a civilization 800 miles from where the Old Testament version of Genesis was written. Furthermore, archaeological evidence will be presented to validate such events as the Exodus, the Kings of Israel, and the invasions from Babylon and Persia. Understanding Jesus was to know who he was and what was his mission.

Have you ever felt dry, depleted, or desperate for something more in your Christian life? Too often our relationship with Jesus consists of little more than attending a church service on Sundays, memorizing Bible stories, and spending fifteen minutes each morning in prayer and reading. We say we know Jesus, but we also realize that we lack intimacy and closeness with Him. The key to Christianity is not to know all about Jesus, but to actually know Him. Knowing Jesus is more about relationship than rhetoric and more about intimacy than information. It's about surrender, abiding, and dependency upon the King of kings and Lord of lords. In this devotional study of a passage from Philippians 3, NRJohnson encourages you to move beyond academics and into intimacy-to embrace Jesus Christ in relationship, not mere head knowledge.

Monotheism And Tolerance written by Robert Erlewine and has been published by Indiana University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with Abrahamic religions categories.

Why are religious tolerance and pluralism so difficult to achieve? Why is the often violent fundamentalist backlash against them so potent? Robert Erlewine looks to a new religion of reason for answers to these questions. Drawing on Enlightenment writers Moses Mendelssohn, Immanuel Kant, and Hermann Cohen, who placed Christianity and Judaism in tension with tolerance and pluralism, Erlewine finds a way to break the impasse, soften hostilities, and establish equal relationships with the Other. Erlewine's recovery of a religion of reason stands in contrast both to secularist critics of religion who reject religion for the sake of reason and to contemporary religious conservatives who eschew reason for the sake of religion. Monotheism and Tolerance suggests a way to deal with the intractable problem of religiously motivated and justified violence.

James Langteaux's God.com transformed thousands of lives with its powerful call to begin the journey called "believe." God.net invites readers to move beyond that first step and take a "road trip with God" into belief itself. Langteaux describes a trek filled both with amazing adventure and "deserts of the real" -- painful moments that propel believers to greater depths and new insights in their walk with God. Written in Langteaux's powerful, poetic style, God.net shows readers how to rely on the safety net of God's Word, depend on the network of fellow believers, become better fishers of men, and enter the "rest of the story," the peace that comes only from living beyond belief.

Dostoevsky S Polyphonic Talent written by Joe E. Barnhart and has been published by University Press of America this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005 with Literary Criticism categories.

This book illuminates the connectedness of Dostoevsky's literary art with his philosophical and psychological brilliance. Two Fyodor Dostoevsky conferences originating at the University of North Texas set the stage for this volume. Scholars contributed original papers focusing on how Dostoevsky's literary art and philosophical insights enrich one another. Fyodor Dostoevsky wrote and thought polyphonically. His polyphonic method is both his special literary technique and his distinctive way of probing theological, social, and philosophical depths. As Bakhtin and Terras suggest, all Dostoevsky's major literary inventions--from the underground man to the vitriolic Grushenka--are products of his ability to listen profoundly to his own characters. Like the genius author-redactor of 1 and 2 Samuel, he reports the heights and depths of human emotion and behavior, whether exploring the anatomy of dysfunctional families, making the heart soar with Zosima's vision of forgiveness, or giving Ivan Karamazov full rein to challenge theism. Dostoevsky's characters transform themselves into irregular verbs whose fierce independence emerges only because of their desperate and inescapable interdependence. His major characters are text, subtext, and context for each other. They play inside each other's head and answer in one way or another.

The Interfaith Imperative written by Ross Thompson and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-01-30 with Religion categories.

Globally we seem torn between local, exclusive forms of religion, which can cause immense spiritual and physical damage to people, and a bland secularism that confines the religions to safe havens, each offering its own private options for "spirituality" within a secularized global politic. In this context the religions tolerate one another but cannot engage in mutually challenging and transforming dialogue. Thompson argues that it is only through dialogue that the distinctive truths of the faiths emerge. Moving beyond the threefold paradigm that has limited dialogue, and challenging modern secularism and postmodern relativism alike, he argues for a dialogue-based realism that is rooted in the Christian doctrines of creation and Trinity. Turning to recent theological approaches, Thompson both affirms and criticizes narrative and postliberal theologies, liberation theology, and the revival of negative theology. The transfiguration of Jesus provides a model for the way theology proceeds in dialogue, from an initial naivety, through metaphysical construction and deconstruction, to a new metaphorical "interillumination." Thompson sets forth a utopian hope for "the interreligious city of God, shining with the divine, interilluminative rainbow light reflected from the many faiths, including the secular faith."
